Awesome bro, I donated as well. thumb.gif

Billions of people know of the Red Cross. Yes, during a non disaster most people don't hang out at "redcross.org"... but during one, you can bet any person wanting to donate to them is on their website doing so.

Another option isn't horrible, I get that. The point is that I don't believe Apple is a "hero". So they gave an option to donate through iTunes? Big deal. That should be, without question, the LEAST they could do.

Hey Magariz, just because I am "hating" on Apple doesn't mean I, or anyone else, has no compassion for the victims of the hurricane. My grandma lives in New Jersey and she was a victim, so don't jump to conclusions about people's feelings.

edit: typos

I don't buy this argument. The fact of the matter is The Red Cross *is* going to be better off due to Apple allowing people to make donations to them through iTunes, because they *will* get donations they would not have gotten otherwise. Secondly, I for one have never donated to The Red Cross by going through their website, every time I donate it is via a text donation. Why? Because it is far more simple to do so than opening up a browser, inputting in my donation amount, all my credit card information, my name, billing address, etc.

But man, I guess if we are going to get upset at Apple for allowing people to donate through iTunes we should be equally upset at ATT, Verizon, Sprint, etc, etc for allowing people the convenience of having a secondary way of donating... and while we are at it, lets get upset at all those damned grocery stores that solicit donations for the Susan G Komen foundation during Breast Cancer Awareness month!

Having another avenue to donate money is never a bad thing, nor is the *constant* exposure the Red Cross is going to receive (free of charge) by having Apple solicit donations for them through iTunes. What does The Red Cross get? A bunch of money they would not have otherwise. What does Apple get? A tax write off. What do the people of North East get? Food, water, blankets and shelter. It seems freaking win-win-win to me.

why would i donate via some apple tune store rather then donating directly?

unless apple would donate at least $10 per $1 i donate i wont even bother.

Then don't, apple isn't forcing anyone, it's a DONATION after all.

I hope steam will also do this, I wanna hear what people will say.

That depends what those tax dollars were to go to... like disaster relief rolleyes.gif

Either way, nothing to see here move along people.

_Surprised that 100% is going through, but with all the money apple has, if it really wanted to help it would over 100% smile.gif

It would not surprise me if they defined "100% of your donation" as the amount left over after expenses, allowing them to take whatever cut they feel like.
It will almost certainly let them dodge some taxes.

Out of curiosity, I went to the red cross web site to see how easy it would be to donate directly to them. The page is 2 links in, and you need to type in your billing info. It's relatively minor convenience to do it through itunes where your billing info is already saved.

However, it's still a good thing they are doing. How many people will see the link in itunes and then donate, who would otherwise not have donated?
There are people trapped in highrises without food, water, or electricity, with knee-deep raw sewage between them and the supplies they need.

Some people are so poor, all they have is money.
I hope some will realize after this experience that money won't save you when stuff hits the fan.
Cooperate or perish - better start practicing while times are good wink.gif

Yeah, I hope they do exactly the same thing Apple are doing. The reaction is going to be the complete opposite.

Wow, I'm seriously disappointed in OCN... All Apple is doing is giving an accessible and easy way to donate money to the Sandy help effort and OCNers still find a way to bash Apple. frown.gif

You can also do it via the Red Cross app, a very simple process.
This is just a publicity stunt for Apple. Yeah, I said it. And, I get it, some of you (very few btw) will look at this and say, "OMG, more Apple hate!"
Reality is, they've developed a reputation worthy of hating.

I just tossed in $20. It's not a lot, but I'm a student and money is tight this time of year.
