Time for new mousepad, any suggestions? - Page 3

Marker for a mouse pad you generally don't want a mix of colors or any colors really. The puretrak talent is one of the few pads that isn't solid black that I would personally recommend. This is because the change in color can mess with your mouses tracking capability. Generally speaking flat black is the way to go, and just find one that is comfortable for you.

I have tried hard mouse pads, I have tried several cloth. I have used both the 9HD and 4HD from SS and while they do provide great tracking I am not a fan of the feel of the MP or how it wears out mouse feet like a million times faster then a cloth pad does. Not to mention the amount of real-estate that a hard pad provides is generally not enough if you are a low sens gamer. I don't like having to pick up my mouse more then I have too and generally speaking hard pads are much smaller to their cloth brotheren.

Right now I am currently using a puretrak talent, and if you don't like the look or design I would recommend looking into like a QCK heavy or something like that. I just ordered a CM speed XL so I am eagerly waiting to test it before I can recommend it or disregard it, but it is a typical flat black, big cloth mouse pad that should provide great tracking for any optical mice, anyone using a laser mouse is generally using an inferior product. I HATE laser mice as they all pretty much have hardware level accel or other issues that make the mouse unusable for anyone trying to perform at their best.

Black isn't the best color, prone to higher LOD, but a lot of mice are tuned for it anyway.

I don't know about tuned for black. Black is the color that optical sensors perform best with. At least with cloth. But just because the surface is black doesn't mean the LOD will be high. Now does the higher LOD equate to better performance?

hi thanks for the help, never knew color affected performance

unfortunately i think cloth is out of the question because i don't like the fray / lint / dust that builds up which makes it look hideous.
Id also prefer not to spend over 20 dollars and id also prefer a non-steel series mousepad.

I'm thinking about plastic, are there any other options out there?

Any input is deeply appreciated

How is talent compared to Hayate/Hien? I don't really like Talent's looks..Wish there was a black one. Hate multicolored pads as they are generally bad for A3090.

Anything else close to Hayate or Hien in quality/speed/control?

it looks way worse in photos (the talent) but when you have it on your desk it's actually a smooth blue with a black background..... i was in the same boat as you with the hating of the colored pads but the talent, especially for price/performance is a solid choice.

hayate is a dust magnet and not to mention close to $60. feels good out of the box but if ANYTHING gets close to it it sticks especially dust. you'll have to put it away, cover it, lint it, or wash it every week or so to prevent this. not fun for a pad thats $60.

you can always get a puretrak stealth which is the same fabric as a talent just smaller (it's 15x10 i think) which isn't small by any means and it's $10 with a code you can find off of retailmenot or slickdeals

I will be getting the CM recon which uses the A3090 sensor in about 2 days(Whenever newegg gets my ordere here tongue.gif), so I will post back when I find out how well it tracks on my puretrak. However if you do some perusing around the net via teh googles you will see that the puretrak is generally regarded as one of if not the best mouse-pad(s) on the market and I tend to agree with that sentiment. I have not read very many complaints about the puretrak talent at all.

Also the durability of the talent seems to be quite exceptional. I have had mine for close to a year now and it looks pretty much like it did out of the box.. Haven't had to wash it yet or anything. Although I don't eat around my computer desk. It is frayed a little bit on the front edge where my arm tends to rub on but nothing that affects performance at all and it isn't actually separating from the backing just a little bit of wear and tear.

Going to try out the CM speed here in a couple days but I doubt it's going to replace my talent as my preferred mousepad.

I bought Puretrak Talent.
I also bought a puretrax talent blue which I had for 2 or 3years and pretty much it almost still looks like brand new.

And I also got a talent white which also is good but the cloth is coming up were my wrist is, So I emailed them which in like 30min they got back too me!

And wanted a pic of it and I sent them one and they said its pretty much from the wrist and arm but there mouse pads shouldn't do it within 4months of use, And they said they will send one too me free of charge:) great support!
