[Resolved] Editing thread changes spacing

  • What happened?

    When I went to change the OP of the Mechanical Keyboard Club, the editor informs me it's in Basic Format, I changed it to Rich Format so I could edit by skipping between Source and the visual editor, I then made a few changes and upon clicking submit, find it has spaced all the lines of text/ images out from each other with blank lines despite not showing this in the preview, I then went to fix this and was told it would have to be converted back into Rich Format, I accepted, removed the extra blank lines, checked in preview and submitted, but there were still many extra blank lines despite them not appearing when I previewed the OP.

    A more clear idea of the problem can be seen by viewing the page.
  • Are you able to reproduce this problem consistently?

    Yes
  • What steps did you take to reproduce this problem?

    Tried several times to correct the spacing using the same method listed above.
  • What action did you expect to occur when this bug appeared?

    The spacing to be returned to as I formatted it and how it appeared in the preview.
  • Any additional information that will help us diagnose the issue:

  • Browser, active browser addons, and operating system:

    Chrime, AdBlock, Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
  • URL where the issue occurs:

Did you "edit thread" or click the icon at the bottom of the post to edit the post? I reported this issue yesterday, I need as many details as possible to follow up.

Also, what format was the post actually created in, and what id your default editor set to?

My default editor was set to BBCE, the post was in rich text and I used the "edit post" button. It broke not only the spacing, but also a bulleted list and a couple of formatted titles. The broken version is still in my edit history.

1000

I was able to fix it by changing the default text editor to RTE, deleting everything in the post and then opening edit history and copy pasting a previous edit from there.

I've tried both the edit thread and edit post options, at the moment both of them give the same results.

As for the format the post was created in, I'm not sure, the post was made in 2009 and I have only just recently been changed to the OP by Tator Tot.

My default editor is set to Rich Format as that's what a guide said was the best option to use for adding Google Docs forms to the post.

Hey, I'm checking into SJ's threads/posts but would you mind trying again to let me know if this has been fixed? I'd like to follow up with this issue because it's quite annoying.

Sorry for the late response, the problem is still occurring.

No worries. Are you clicking the link "Edit this Thread" at the top or are you editing the post with the pencil icon at the bottom of the post? Just curious.

I've tried both alternatives, I assume it's not working as it is trying to convert it to Basic Format and adding extra blank lines.

To sum up I've tried:

In the Rich Format mode:

  • Click Edit Thread, convert to Rich Format, make changes, preview, submit;
  • Click Edit Thread, convert to Rich Format, make changes, submit;
  • Click Edit Thread, make changes, preview, submit;
  • Click Edit Thread, make changes, submit;
  • Copy a previously working version, make changes, preview, submit;
  • Copy a previously working version, make changes, submit;
  • Click Edit Post, convert to Rich Format, make changes, preview, submit;
  • Click Edit Post, convert to Rich Format, make changes, submit;
  • Click Edit Post, make changes, preview, submit;
  • Click Edit Post, make changes, submit;

In the BB Code Editor mode:

Same as above but not the "convert to Rich Format" options as you can't in the editor.

Hm, well I do know that "Edit this thread" link at the top of the thread is not working correctly. If you don't mind, could you try the "edit post" icon to see if the formatting is still changing? (It shouldn't)

Let me know regardless.
