buy now or wait till christmas?

Thread Starter
it's been over 3 months since i've been contemplating about if i should or should not get a new gpu. I'm currently on a 470gtx and over the summer i upgraded to a 27inch ips which is 2560x1440 so my 470gtx is kinda chugging along. One of the cards i've been looking at for a while is the 7970 and with it now being cheaper i kind of want to jump to buy it, but also at the same time it's almost time for them to transition to the 8000series so not sure if i should wait a little longer or buy now.

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm getting about $600 for christmas and I want to know to get a 7970 or wait for the 8000series. I might not have a choice though, $600 burns a hole in my pocket real fast if you know what I mean.

It says in your sig you have it? Do you? I think you could hold tight for a month. I'm really not sure about release dates for the 8000 series. Haven't kept up with the rumors.

Do you really feel like waiting up to 4 months for the release? I bought my GTX 570 about 4 months before 600 series came out and it still is just as fast as the day I bought it...

I haven't heard anything about the 8000 series, just everyone saying wait it will be out soon. I am hoping we will see the 7970 drop into the $350 + the game bundle range in the near future.

No one knows exactly when 8000 series will come out. God forbid you wait 4 months only to hear they have delayed it into the 2nd or 3rd quarter. I say buy what you can now, the difference between series isn't going to be astronomical.....only enough of a increase so people will buy the newer card/update. Got to remember these companies want money.

If you spend your whole life waiting, you'll never get anything done.

Upgrade when your current rig is not fast enough, not because it isn't the shiniest or flashiest... and don't wait for long periods of time for the next cycle to come out, because you may get more power, but you suffered 4 months with old hardware that you couldn't stand because it was underpowered.
