Well, if you see something you really want then get it. You can get good savings on older cards.

With how strong the 7970 is going I imagine they will want to get as many sales out of it as they possibly can, with that being said buy one now, and crossfire another one later if you still need more performance

What he said. There have been a smattering of deals for $350 or less and I am pretty sure there will be many more the closer to the holidays.

i think you should wait til christmas, if you're REALLY patient, yea you could wait for the 8xxx series, but it will be quite some time till they release the series, and even more time until they release a replacement\something better than the 7970. trust me, even if you buy it now, the 7970 will be more than enough for this year and the next, if you really want the best of the best, you could get a Asus Matrix Platinum 7970, overclock it to 1200MHz, and you have a beast of a gpu.

$299 isn't unrealistic for Black Friday. I can guarantee it.

Thread Starter
oooh after reading around the 7950 with new driver and a bit of overclocking goes a long way.. what the performance difference between the 7950 and 7970 when overclocked. since in one of the thread it looks like the 7950 is close to the 680gtx.

At the same clocks HD 7950 is 3 - 5% slower than HD 7970. Most HD 7950s hit 1150 Mhz easily with voltage tweaking. Going beyond 1200 Mhz requires you get a golden sample. the highest HD 7950 OC on air in ocn is bruennis at 1280 Mhz. The Gigabyte HD 7950 is a good card.

As for performance , with 12.11b drivers HD 7950 (1150 Mhz ) is faster than GTX 680 (1250 Mhz) and HD 7950 (1280 ) faster than GTX 680 (1372 Mhz) according to users who have used the GTX 680.
