upgrade done but system seems sluggish

Thread Starter
hi guys,

i previously (3 days ago) was using a i7 950 on an asus p6 mobo and 3 days ago decided to update to i7 3770 and asrock fatality z77 performance board.

however what im finding is that system seems to lag / freeze from time to time especially when multitasking.

seems a little more sluggish that my old system.

Can anyone shed some light on this or if they have any experience with this asrock board - help me to OC or speed up to 3.9ghz

thanks
Blacky

I'm assuming you didn't reinstall windows. This might be the cause of the slowness (Raid driver issue maybe).
I would recommend doing a fresh install....And why not have a small SSD as a boot drive? much faster than 2 HDD in Raid 0.

As for oc'ing, 3.9GHz is not really overclocking with the 3770k.
Set the All core multi in Bios to 42, Offset voltage mode set to +0.030v and stress test using something like Prime95.....

hi eXXon, thanks for the reply. Yes I did do a fresh install of Windows 7 on a new HD SATA not SSD.

I did what you recommended but also did a bios update and all seems better now. Will do more testing to see response time but boot time is still takes same length as it did on my previous i7 950.

Even if the system was stock it shouldn't be slugglish, Definitely some issue worth resolving tongue.gif

Maybe start in Safe Mode to see if its a software issue and go from there...

@Simplythebest - i dont think its software as it was like this when i first installed windows with zero third party software on it.

I was looking at cpu z

and for some reason it shows this

Im guessing the ram speed isnt right......but i could be wrong

Make sure you install your chipset drivers as well. I recently made a very similar upgrade and now it is painfully obvious my mechanical hard drives are the major slow-down factor for my PC. As far as ram goes, 666.7 x2 is your 1333 ram stock speed, so that is correct. You might have to manually adjust the speed and timings in bios to overclock.

I would think it's the chipset drivers that could fix that issue. Straight off I would have thought it might be slow ram, but that's just a mis-conception of myself coming from the mindset of the DDR2 days on a P45 board which had a similar problem for me years back. tongue.gif

hey all, yup chipset drivers are installed correctly - as I installed all drivers from the CD it came with. Also when I plug in a USB device ie my phone it takes a good 10-20 seconds for it to be detected. Is this normal as i recall with my old set up it was almost instant, installing drivers may take sometime but detecting device should be instant no?

Never install CD drivers because they are probably old. Get new ones online.
