Am I missing something about Win 8? Alot of hype for what?

Thread Starter
I ran the beta on my sig rig, and I did explore it and make use of it. I honestly don't see a single reason I need to move from Win 7. Am I missing something? Is this just a hype thing where a few people buy it and act like they like it 'cause it's new and made "cool" through marketing?

It reminds me of Apple people running out to buy anything new that's Apple. Do they even have a reason to?

Not a rant, I'd really like to hear any good reason I should look at 8 on something without a touchscreen.

I too agree, have it installed on my laptop and it's great for that iPad kinda feel (better interface than IOS imo and I have iPhone/iPad/iPod) so a touchscreen tablet would be sweet.
My 6yo son picked it up straightaway after a few apps were installed, overall it's great... unless you have a mouse and keyboard and want to screw around with appearance a lot.

I installed some games, they ran fine. Installed a couple different DAWs, they were all good. No reason to freak out about usability because I had no trouble at all actually doing the things I normally do.

It's fine but made with a definite view to the future where touch screen tech should be far more prevalent.

I installed Developer Preview and hated it. I installed the full version and decided to stick with it for a bit. All the tweaks they've done to the operating system are actually *very* nice. The Start Menu isn't too bad either, it's like a full-page favorites menu you can get to by just hitting the Winkey.

Try it for at least a week; switch back to Windows 7 if you don't like it. A lot of people installed the developer preview of all things and got a terrible operating system for their troubles. The final release is a lot better although some people will take issue with the start menu and the Metro UI regardless of what happens.

No way. Vista was absolutely wretched, buggy, inneficient, hardware-incompatible mess of an OS. Win 7 may not have looked much different but it was a major improvement all-around.

One click over to the Windows section will give more than enough answers to your question. Windows 8 is a vast improvement over any of the previous versions IMHO, you just have to be brighter than a mouse pad to figure things out.

Another dumb thread enticing a Windows 8 hate circle jerk.

If you ran the beta and "didn't see a single reason" to upgrade to it, why are you asking for people for good reasons to use it again? Makes absolutely no sense. If you don't like it move on and stop trying to stir up drama.

Windows 8 is great from a code and efficiency standpoint.

It's also great for touch enabled devices, and people who for whatever asinine reason enjoy swiping things around with their mouse.

Unfortunately, the code side of things will go unnoticed by most users with modern hardware, and the touch part is useless for a PC.
