The issue I have with it is the radical changes and dumbing down of the stock UI, and locking down of "under the hood" features. Poweruser stuff, and stuff that just doesn't have any reason to be changed and forces an unwanted change in user behavior. I also highly disagree with a lot of the decisions that were made on a moral level. I like to think of myself as a man of principle, so this matters to me.
Of course, the majority of users will never see any of the benefits or the disadvantages I'm talking about and will just keep ranting/raving about petty stuff for no good reason.

Like what? Give me some examples here. Not looking to fight but I'm interested in some legit reasons why it's bad.

True, but I'm referring to those who didn't try it or at least saw someone using it.

The Metro UI certainly takes some getting used to, and driver and program support is in its early stages causing problems for some people. Like Zero4549 said, it does have advantages though. These include built in support for PDF, ISO and other files, better security (but you still need a third party antivirus to be safe), better built in support for newer hardware, and some programs (like Skyrim in my case) run better in 8.

Here we go yet again.

I will say that I'm getting Win 8 for my new rig, and it mainly has to do with pricing. I can get Win 7 OEM for about the same price, and have it mobo locked, or Win 8 that isn't locked. The choice was simple. As far as upgrading the 2 PCs and 2 laptops I have at the house? Not so much.

These are a couple good examples.

To add a few things from the categories I mentioned (lmk if I missed one)

Benefits:
-windows now includes a proper download manager. (added feature that normally needs third party software)
-better native touchscreen support (better hardware support)
-removal of "unused" legacy code (more efficient code, less space taken up on hard drive)

Disadvantages:
-removal of some not-really-"unused" legacy code. (many command line switches and registry "hacks" no longer work.)
-stock UI is different with no real reason (for desktop users). You might like it, you might be able to change it with a third party software, but with a stock configuration, is it now impossible for many users to get a UI they are comfortable with. (this matters both on a moral principle level, and on a corporate / mass installation level)
-movement towards a "walled garden" (as evidenced by semi-locked bootloader, windows app store, etc. (take a wild stab at this one wink.gif)

I didn't even know that there's a built in download manager. Is it for Internet explorer only, of does it work with Chrome?

Sorry, I meant file transfer manager. Not really sure why I said download, although IE does have one of those now.

As for UI that's preference although I'll admit that I get annoyed when people dismiss it instantly and don't give it a chance. Anything new has a learning curve and I feel 90% of the time people aren't giving windows 8 the time of day to get over that learning curve.

As for the bootloader or more specifically windows secure boot. It can be turned off in x86 (32bit or 64bit) machines, so that's moot. It poses a potential problem only for ARM CPU's which are used solely for tablets. As far as I know you can't install windows on an iPad either so windows are just following trend, people are making a mountain out of mole hill here.

Can you give me some examples of your first point? I'd be interested to know which switches don't work.

That depends whether they stop there. A lot of people (including me) are afraid that M$ might be trying to slowly get used to the idea so we won't cause too much trouble if they make Win9 completely closed.
