g540 vs 6450 - Page 2

You'll probably be fine with the 540, but there's no such thing as to much power.

Personally I'd get the 540.

I own the Pentium G620 and have been completely impressed with it. I'd go for the G620 for an extra 11 bucks.

I'm not trying to bargain you up, but if you can do the G850, it has Intel HD 2000 and a higher clock speed. It would be by far the most future proof of this budget range. thumb.gif

^This, the g620 is actually a Powerful Chip! I would've went with one in my server had I not have the money for an i3 instead, it's THAT good!

would i see a noticeable difference over the g540 for my needs?

i don't think ill be doing anything that intensive, 1080p/bluray playback at most

It might be just 11 bucks but if i keep saying that then i'll be soon at 3570k tongue.gif

Probably not, you COULD use an AMD-e350 for bluray playback. BUT, I wouldn't Skimp on the CPU, Go for the G620, it's a nice CPU

There was a thread somewhere around here where the CPU side of the E350 couldn't handle BluRay playback and was stuttering badly with 100% load on the CPU cores. frown.gif

Get the 620. She's a strong one, that's for sure. thumb.gif

even though its just 10 dollars, why would i do the upgrade if itll always be fine for 1080p playback?

Can't i always just overclock it if need be

I was already thinking of downclocking the g540, so i don't think doing the upgrade will be beneficial, unless someone can convince me otherwise.

All input is deeply appreciated.

You know you're probably Very correct, Because The processor needs to Decode the audio as well as play the video, if you have a receiver decoding the audio, then it works fine.

If you want to use the HTPC as a server as well, the g620 would do better.

will not be running a server, just strictly 1080p playback lol

the main reason i'm not leaning towards the g620 is because i don't think its worth the hassle to cancel and reorder
