I just bought and returned a Nexus 7. It's a fast performing device but I was underwhelmed by the screen contrast and color. My Samsung Tab 7.0+ and Toshiba AT270 7.7 both have much better color/contrast ratios.
If you can catch the Samsung Tab 7.0 on a deal it's good as well (although the Acer A110 is better in just about every way except battery life).
Have a look at the charts I created. Bear in mind the pricing is Canadian/USD.

Have a look at that thread, I started it because I was split between the kindle fire and the nexus 7
