Before I moved for work, my previous house had all the systems between my room mates and I. It came down to always having the best hardware for a certain task.
The Xbox 360 was used for American Netflix and Media Extender from a windows 7 Pc running Windows Media Center. The PS3 was use for blu-rays. And the HTPC was used for Youtube, general internet browsing, and emulators.
Now you could argue that you could just have the PC act as everything listed above, but as another user mentioned, the exclusive titles make it worth it to have the consoles if you have at least a few friends who enjoy them.
Plus having all the systems means your friends have more reason to come over and you can charge them a food and drink tax :P
