Air cooler suggestion? Read Description - Page 7

I used to have a Coolermaster iTower 930. This case I have (HEC Blitz) is about 2 months old.

I assumed 60c is quite poor, because most coolers I have seen on here like the EVO can keep chips under 60c quite nicely.

Elohim knows coolers and fans much better than I do.. and he suggests TS120 instead of 212... and I can only speak for myself... but I would have to be in a really bad way before I would use a 212 cooler... and even worse off before I would spend . There are just way too many others that are better in all the right ways.

212 . = . £26.99
TS120 = £24.99

You do whatever you gotta do mate. It's your deal, not mine. thumb.gif

Basically.
And again, the Thor's hammer is a great cooler. Maybe he has a faulty one with an uneven base or didnt aplly the TIM correctly, maybe his chip is just that hot, who knows? (i wouldnt run it higher than 1,4V anyway)
http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/gehaeuse-und-kuehlung/2009/test-xigmatek-thors-hammer-cpu-kuehler/4/

In theory the TH is one of the better 120mm fan based single Tower coolers you could have. The only real upgrade in form of single tower coolers would be the likes of the TS140, NZXT Havik 140 and above.

I agree Elohim. If it was me I would be sorting out the TH and not looking to replace. wink.gif

Maybe the bottom is warped slightly or maybe I do have a hot chip.

I suppose I put it down to the airflow problem too, I may just get a smaller cooler (probably true spirit 120 if its so good) and get new chip. For me, this thors hammer isn't totally impressive smile.gif it wasn't really a major upgrade from my CNPS 5X

If your CPU is usually around 56 when running p95, you are fine. 56 is not hot. My CPU idles at 44 and maxes out at 72C with IBT. If youve got some money thats just burning a hole in your pocket to spend then go for it, but your temps are fine. The $70-100 that you would spend on new cooling could be used for something else that will actually make a difference. I wish my 920 would max out at 55C.

For example you could take that $100 and and upgrade your 17 inch monitor to a 22" or add a little more money to it and get a 24".

About coolers again guys, I switched from FX to Thuban tongue.gif so now looking to cool this thing. My thors hammer hits 58C at 4.0Ghz 1.380 vcore. This is without thermal paste.

Think changing the orientation will help with cooling? I hate this cooler because of its mounting (yes I still own the Thors Hammer tongue.gif). The CNPS10X Performa seems to perform the same as the Thors Hammer so may go for this. I want to make use of my dual front fans because right now the only air it has is the side fan and the GPU.

Once I get rid of this cooler and replace it to fully use the front fans I can remove the side fan and use it as a rear CPU cooler fan smile.gif

Well, first of all....WHY aren't you using thermal paste??? Changing orientation will ABSOLUTELY work better....like has been said from Day 1. Also, you should absolutely use some good thermal paste. If you're looking for one, MX4 is the best I've used, and seems to get pretty good reviews. I believe you said you're using Mx2....that's practically the same performance as the MX4.

No the reason I am not using thermal paste is because I am hoping to sell this tongue.gif so waiting to get a good cooler and THEN I will put it on. I bought some MX-2, it works well smile.gif

There are just too many coolers out there, so think I am going to stick with the light and easy to mount but good CNPS10X.

If I were you, I'd save $50 and buy a CM Hyper 212.
