Ah yeah in small writing it says AM3 mount. Awesome.

And yeah better to move away from the forum before I stir things up again! Just kidding, I think I've just decreased everyone's life by a couple of years from stress biggrin.gif

I'm like a pressure cooker. I just blow of a little steam and all is good thumb.gif

Please post up with pics etc of how it goes when you get it next week. wink.gif

And if it don't work for you I'll still be here to help. thumb.gif

Edit: Download the manual and give it a read.

After you read the instructions and have cooler try it all on to make sure it all fits up like it should. The back mount screw is kinda a pain as it's under cooler and you need a very long philips screwdriver or 1/4" socket set with long extension to reach down through cooler to tighten the screw. Other harder option is to use a small spanner supplied to do it.

Do trial assemble both cooler onto CPU and fans onto cooler before you do the final install to be sure you are comfortable doing it with TIM on CPU. thumb.gif

Lol my bad, I caused it all biggrin.gif

(This is a constructive post!) Though from here and here it shows the AC A30 is better and the Xigmatek Aegir is better.

I am a bit inclined and torn towards the Aegir now from its results. I will be mounting a 100CFM 140MM cooler on it plus the stock which is rated at 98CFM or something.

I should be fine installing it, I will take the motherboard out to install it because I see the mounting is a lot different.

Thanks for the heads up, the Macho is pretty massive tongue.gif I have a long screwdriver so shouldn't be much of an issue.

By long I mean really really long.... like 17-18cm from base of handle to tip long... biggrin.gif

18cm?! OK that IS long biggrin.gif that may be a challenge. Ah its fun building and putting a heatsink so should be good biggrin.gif

Just found couple of reviews on what cooler matches the Macho. Xigmateks newest Dark Knight II Hawk Edition. Ordered it! Looks very promising and has good reviews.

Will post pictures up soon. See how this new coated technology works biggrin.gif

Well, I'm glad to hear you're not upset about it all. And I didn't mean to sound grumpy earlier.

Now, one of the best comments I've read in the last 5 pages was this: Read the instruction manual for each one that's on your short list. I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but I can tell you that one of the most important things to know is orientation COUNTS! You'll really benefit from getting the fan off of your GPU. Do you wanna know how to tell if your investment was worth it? Run your CPU with no TIM at a certain setting. Then, add TIM and do it again. Then, add TIM and set up your new cooler and do it again. Then, you can do a great job of properly knowing what was what.

Now, let me ask you.....is there anything you can do to mount the Dark Knight in a horizontal position on your mobo? I know with the 212+ you can mount it horizontally or vertically, but it was a challenge for me to figure out how to mount it horizontally.

Haha course not, it would be pretty pathetic for me to get moody over it. I see both your reasoning, considering its over 8 pages long! My bad!

But yeah, I will read the instructions because I am used to the AMD simple snap on click done type of mounting bracket. Also, that is one of the reason I wanted a better cooler, for some reason Xigmatek only shipped the Thors Hammer with the standard AMD mount, so it allowed only one orientation.

I checked up the Dark Knight Hawk and it comes with an all in one mounting system, so it lines up the holes allowing you to install it in any direction. Looked up couple of youtube videos with AMD setups to make sure, so thankfully they've included a new mounting system (that the original dark knight lacked).

And alright I will give that a shot with the TIM, I have got my temperature readings on my desktop still so I will compare them. I think the orientation will really help as well as having chunky heat pipes, I will run it passive, single fan and then dual fan to see the temperatures also to see what work its doing. My MX-2 is my personal choice, its nice and easy to use and does the job. So will install it without and then with, when the cooler arrives.

Also yeah, the Hyper 212 comes with additional mounting brackets, most new coolers (if not all) allow a change in orientation for AMD. Thas the one thing AMD used to lack, my thors hammer is quite old because they eventually brought out the Crossbar mounting system which unfortunately was so rare to find and was mainly in America it was sold (newegg). Then this version, Dark Knight Hawk they've finally included the crossbar pressure mounting bracket for us AMD guys biggrin.gif

Thanks again everyone for your help! smile.gif
