[ Build Log ] Project MCC ver.2

Thread Starter
After being on this forum for around 1.5 years now, my computer has seen several changes since it started:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1038194/project-mcc-new-updates

I have went through several motherboards, coolers, cases, and video cards. I guess its time to share what i have latest. Other than the cpu, SSD and psu, everything else has changed since the first MCC project.

I went through several video cards ranging from EVGA GTX 580 DS, MSI GTX 580 Lightning Ex., ASUS GTX 580 Matrix, EVGA GTX 560 Ti 448 core, and the last one before the latest update, the EVGA GTX 590.

I have finally jumped back to team "RED" after several Nvidia products. My latest video card which I picked up yesterday was the ASUS HD 7970 Matrix Platinum.

This computer has slowly evolved to be ready for Crysis 3 thumb.gif

I am still having issues overclocking the gpu, but getting some tips here and there on OCN. Will go home to play around with it some more later tonight. Currently it sits at 1210/1700 which are disappointing numbers compared to others.

Here is the list for the latest parts.

CPU: i5-2500k @ 4.8 ghz

CPU cooler: Noctua NH-D14

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H

Video card: ASUS HD 7970 Matrix Platinum

Ram: 8GB Patriot Intel Extreme Masters Limited Edition

SSD: OCZ Vertez 2 E 120GB

Power Supply: Corsair AX850

Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/ window

That is it for now. I will post up pictures as soon as possible =)

You've had 6 GPU's in 1.5 years? Holy cow, lol.

Looks like an interesting build though, is that a 24/7 OC? BTW, what's the voltage on the CPU for 4.8?

yes its 24/7 ... never had a crash when gaming or intel burn testing.

voltage is at 1.35v i think cooled by the noctua with only the 140mm fan.

haha yes... i like playing with video cards. i buy them used except for the matrix 580/7970/560 ti 448, then i sell them back quickly so don't lose much in value but i get to test them out and OC and see benchmarks.

haha not to mention before OCN, the 6870 CF setup in April 2011 and the 5770, my very first video card prior in Dec 2010.

That sounds like a really good chip you have man! I have a 2600k @ 4.4 GHz at 1.32V 24/7 stable.

Good idea with the video cards though. Although I'd like to have a permanent card that works awesomely, like a 670. smile.gif The reason mostly for a 670 would be awesome Folding PPD and WUPD.

your chip is very good too, i think at 4.2 ghz mine was 1.28v =)

I once used open bench and got a 5.0 ghz at 1.435v thumb.gif

it was fun, but the power usage/heat was not practical

yes the 670 is really good, i debated over it, but the matrix looks too sexy biggrin.gif probably going keep this card for a while now... need to allocate cash to other things mad.gif

1.35V at 5 GHz? That's an awesome chip. smile.gif

Plan on uploading any pictures of the build to this thread?
