that sucks dude, did you use the insulation tape? you're supposed to use that to prevent Short circuiting.

i installed it on a 6970 1 or 2 years ago when i first got my card, the cooler is wonderful, i've never had issues with the "crappy" adhesive.

That thermal tape AC used to use on the heatsinks that came with their older coolers was good enough and never had problems with it. The glue that came with my Twin Turbo II is crap all around. Had to go naked on the VRAM chips, but fortunately the VRMs on my card came with a stock heatsink of their own.

I just bought and installed two Accelero Extreme 7970, now there is a just a small glue tube, no more of that dual component stuff.

I didnt use it anyway and used 3M thermal tape to attach only the RAM heatsinks and one heatsink on the voltage controller. For the VRMs I just left the original HIS plate.

I am also thinking of getting one for my 7950. How hard is the installation?

Didn't take too long for me. All I put on is the cooler itself and not the heatsinks. Couldn't tell you about t heatsinks?

I'm a bit disappointed about this cooler. Yeah it's really good at cooling the GPU itself, but the rest of the card, like the VRMs... In the end it's quiet, but that's about it, I don't seem to be able overclock any further since the VRMs temp is the limiting factor. The original cooler was like a hairdryer, but the end results are the same since at least it could push loads of air around. GPU is at 50°C but the VRMs are as hot as ever...
One one of my two cards that runs hotter, I have artifacts where I never had any with the original cooler at the same clocks (because it was able to move so much more air).

So end of the story, less noise yes, more performance no and longer life from the card I'm not even sure since the VRMs are becoming so hot...
