Programs crashing after installing 3770k

post #1 of 10
Thread Starter
I sold my 2600k a few days ago and spent the money on a 3770k.

But I've been having problems with programs randomly crashing. When i log into windows Catalyst Control Center crashes right away.

So far I've reinstalled windows, tried 3 different bios and down clocking to stock speeds but programs are still crashing all the time.

About 9-10 hours into prime 95 the program crashes on me.

Here is my latest attempted at 12 hour prime.

Any ideas on what could be causing the problems?

Was the 3770k second hand or new?

I've had this happen to me once. The culprit was thermal paste that got inside the pins.

@davayy
The Processor was brand new new.

I'm about to check to see if any thing got inside the pins.

It could be, as suggested, something interfering with the pins. Have you reseated it or anything since you put it in?

I just finshed reseating and there was no thermal paste on the pins or under the chip.None of the pins were bent.I'm still getting catalyst control center crashes but i'm gong to try to run prime to see if that crashes.

Try running intel burn test and see how it runs. Also try prime for 18 hours so all 72 FFT's run or prime95 12 hours (10 minute FFT vs 15 minutes) Iv had it pass 12 hours only to fail after 12 hours because a certain FFT was not able to pass.

I passed 10 runs of intel burn test.

I'll try gaming on it for a few hours. If i don't get any crashes I'll try running prime overnight.

If that fails I'll try resetting to stock bios.
