Ram frequency incorrect

Thread Starter
Hey guys,I recently upgraded my system and got a brand new Sabertooth z77,i5 3570k and more things.
I kept the previous ram I had which is 4gb of mushkin radioactive 1600 1.65v 7-9-7-24 and 4gb of mushkin radioactive 1600 1.65v 6-9-7-24.

I had the first kit and then I got more and I thought that the timings would be the same but they weren't.But with my previous amd mobo they both ran at 7-9-7-24 without any problems at all.

The problem I have now is that the mobo isn't detecting the ram sticks properly, the 7-9-7 sticks are detected properly and I can set them to run @ 1600 7-9-7 but the 2 sticks with 6-9-7-24 are not, they don't even have xmp in their spd info in the motherboard and in cpu-z either.

I can only run them @ 1333 9-9-9 1.5v but they are 1.65 1600mhz 6-9-7-24.

I've tried setting the timings to 1600mhz and voltage manually but after that the motherboard will not post at all and I get the overclocking failed message after resetting.

I've updated the motherboard to the latest bios.

What can I do? I have to run my memory at a much slower speed and it seems that the motherboard doesn't support it at all.

Thanks a lot.

Have you tried just upping voltage within acceptable limits? Try 1.55 and see if it'll boot @ 1600. I had the same problem when I went from phenom II to 2500k. I got lucky though and the 1.65v kingston ran good at 1.53v.

Thanks for the quick reply!.

You mean trying to set the ram voltage lower than 1.65v and setting it to 1600mhz and 7-9-7 manually?

I'll try that now.

So you're mixing RAM of different timings and trying to get them to the same timings and speed?

Yes, exactly. Keep timings loose at first though, then start to tighten them up when you know it will at least boot at the frequency/voltage.

Well yeah I'm mixing them I had no idea the ram was 6-9-7 I mean it was exactly the same model mushkin radioactive but the other one i got had different timings.

I was able to post with the ram running @ 1500 1.60v but then it crashed during the windows load. It's now running @1400mhz without any problems but thats as high as I can take it.

I know that it could be the ram mixing problem but I've tried running the 6-9-7 sticks without the other ones and it still gives me the same results,no xmp 1600 mhz so I don't beleive it's a problem with the mixing timings, probably just because the motherboard isn't recognizing them correctly.

Besides running all of them together perfectly worked with my other m5a99x evo motherboard(AMD mobo though).

Do kits work together at 1600 9-9-9? The problem might be, say, in the subtimings.

No,even if I set the timings to 9-9-9 they still don't work.

I have this picture for you guys to see what I mean.

You can clearly see there that the 6-9-7 kit is not being detected properly,it has no xmp 1600 but it's clearly a 1600mhz memory,it's in the specifications.

They can't be faulty because they were perfectly working with my older m5a99x evo.The guy I bought them to told be he had no problem to give me another kit but he said that they are probably incompatible with the motherboard and that I should wait for new bios updates.

hmmm, i would disable (scrap it) XMP and manually set them up and be sure that you use the same voltage on both kits. running RAM on different voltages can cause instability.. maybe you need to run both kits at 1.65V and try maunally setting the clock and play with the timings starting with looser timings...
