I would pumping the fluid right into the the heat sink, or even try pumping right into a water block and leaving the outlet open to the tank.

So like pump->res>heatsink/waterblock. That way the coolest oil is cooling the CPU.

Maybe the return can be hooked up to a PVC pipe with a bunch of small holes to disperse the cooler oil more evenly around the tank.

Pumping through a block at the end has a lot of merit. My only concern is that there might still not be enough surface area to cool the CPU. Also, until I get a new pump, pumping oil into the oil produces too much pressure for the pump. It's weird. But I will try the waterblock idea.

The only heat issue is the CPU. All other components remain very cool, even under stress.

Get s small submersible pump and dump the cooled oil from the rad directly onto the HS.

Today I'll be buying a submersible pump rated @ 1056 GPH. That should give me a bit more than 3x the pull my current pump does. I'll post pics and results when I'm done.

What do you guys think about using a low-watt peltier cooler with a heatsink in the environment? Do you think the combination of the heatsink + oil would be sufficient to keep the peltier from burning out? If so, this could really cool the CPU @ the cost of raising the ambient oil temp. But since none of the other components make it past 53 C, I think I have the head room.

Also, I'm thinking of making a pneumatic pressure lift to hold up the computer when I want to work on it. I'll draw up a design and see what you lot think.
this just looks like a headache, good luck getting those temps down. I know some people have used bubblers to try and capture and release heat from the oil, but I don't remember if it helped them out or not. I also can't believe that the static pressure of that fan is too good next to the rad like that... maybe try building a shroud??

From what i'm seeing why aren't they cleanable? Some cleaning agents to remove the oil (propanol bath maybe, or something more agressive like acetone?), a good wash with hot water and mild non agressive soap, a proper hot water rinse, and let them dry a couple of hours on direct sunlight... Should work like a charm in theory.

Keep in mind that as long as a pcb is properly and COMPLETELY dried, it can be washed. Preferably with distilled water, but still.

Anybody got the oil and some dead pcbs to test it out? biggrin.gif

Very interesting.

Most of the oil bath systems I've seen built were done so for the "oh, ah" factor and never provided any numbers as to the effectiveness of the cooling. While I'm not ready to throw away traditional water cooling yet, the numbers are pretty nice. 10-20C lower is pretty significant over air cooling ... still not what I would want, since I and fold on my 2 GTX 580's with traditional water cooling and they never get over 53C even after 48 hours at 100% load.
