Thread Starter
Hello, I'm looking for a mainboard that has at least 3 accessible pci-e x1 slots available with the gfx cards installed. I have 3 pci-e x1 devices (sound, tv, wifi ) that i need hook up. I want to run three x1 devices with 2 gfx cards installed, does anyone here know of such a board?
Budget is 150.

assuming you're using a cpu supported by AM3 this "should" do, since you can run pci-e x1 in x16/x8/4 slots, but on this board it might limit your gpu to x8.(pretty sure they can atleast)

*edit2* OR THIS

*edit3* This one actually has 3 PCI-Ex1s after a gpu is added, assuming it's a dual slot.

I'm looking to build a HT/Folding/Gaming/Media pc for the living room. It's main purpose will be to run 24/7 as a back up to the nas media sever and to gfx fold from time to time. As far as chips I don't know what would be best. I was going to figure that out after I found the board smile.gif . I could ditch the wifi card for a usb to make things easier. That msi is already on my list of maybes.
The ASRock brand I am unfamiliar with, are they a good brand?
I did not know I could run x1s on the gfx slots. So if I get a board that has 3 or 4 gfx slots I should be fine.
Also this is my first SLI setup and I don't know anything really but I was thinking about getting two 650 or the 660 if the price is right.
My budget is 150 for everything. 150 for the mainboard, 150 for the cpu, 150 each for the gfx and so on.

"AM3+/FM2/FM1"
What is FM2/FM1?
I need to go do some more research frown.gif

Thanks for the replies.

Ok defiantly not looking for a FM2 main board.

What mainboard would let me run one of these cards on the gfx slots without slowing down the sli setup?
Basically my problem is that these two x1 cards are huge and hot.
To better illustrate my problem here are the cards:

The sound card is a Asus Xonar.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4540646&CatId=2771

The cable tv card is a Ceton InfiniTV 4
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&N=-1&isNodeId=1&Description=Ceton+InfiniTV+4&x=11&y=16

In my currant system I have three x1 slots but I am only able to use two slots, one for wifi (under the gfx card) and the other for the tv card (on top of the gfx card). If i mount the sound or tv card under the gfx card, it blocks the fan.

So as you can see I'm in quite a pickle for a mainboard.

Well, it looks like your best bet would be either of these 2 motherboards. Not very familiar with with SLI setups but I'm pretty sure these should work, but it'd be great if someone could confirm.(Assuming dual slot GPUs)

MSI 990XA-GD55

Or

Nice system trailer park.
My sony receiver has two optical jacks. So I could use the optics on a new board for the sound but I bought this 2yrs ago and used it less then 6mo. due to fan issue.
Currently my system is using the onboard audio via 3.5 to rca Y splitter and it sounds ok not great but ok.

I'm thinking about this one. (5 pci-e)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128509

I could save a few bucks and go with this one. (4 pci-e)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128514

Never owned a gigabyte before, I'm pretty much been a asus fan. All the desktops in the house are old asus's, except the living room pc.
Thats only because all the other ones died. 2 msi's, 1 biostar's and 1 zotac died 3 days out of the box. When the last msi blew i was setting at my desk and thought i saw a led flashing on the board then POP! a big flash and some smoke :O That one lasted about a year and a half.

Do you think the gigabyte will preform well in a 24/7 environment for like the next 3 years?
