Need help on my first build - Page 2

Alright, you guys have convinced me to go with a less expensive CPU, I have narrowed it down to three. Suggestions?

Intel® Core™ i7-3770K Processor
(8M Cache, up to 3.90 GHz)
http://ark.intel.com/products/65523

Intel® Core™ i7-3930K Processor
(12M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz)
http://ark.intel.com/products/63697

Intel® Core™ i7-3820 Processor
(10M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz)
http://ark.intel.com/products/63698

Alright, going to overclocking one so please keep that in mind

Edit: Oh, and shout out to Karlitos, the information on overclocking the RIVE was helpful, though I still don't fully understand the fan wiring, but I think that's just something that I need to deal with hands on to grasp.

Edit 2: And whats a BIOS?

Edit 3: I'm reading the RIVE thread... and I've realized I haven't done much reading on overclocking to begin with since I was going to have someone else do it for me and now I feel like a complete noob.

Edit 4: So many edits haha. Oh well, just realized that 3770 isn't Socket 2011 so thats out.

I'd go with the 3930k. More cache and a fully unlocked multiplier for not that much more than the 3820k, considering you have quite the budget.

The BIOS is the menu type-o-deal you go to when you want to change system settings. Everything from base clock speeds to system time. It's where you go to make the fun stuff happen, and you get there with just a simple hotkey right after you turn your computer on. In regards to the fan wiring diagram that Karlitos posted, you're basically just wiring 3 fans to the same header (fans are wired in parallel with each other). If you just want one fan per header, no modding of the fan cables is necessary. What he posted would be useful if you had multiple fans on a radiator or push/pull on a CPU heatsink, and wanted them controlled off the same channel.

Edit: As far as the Sentry goes, I've always just preferred a decent rheobus than those crazy touchscreen things. Knobs are cool thumb.gif

Alright, I'm going to switch my cpu to the 3930k and the fan controller to the Sentry Mesh (http://www.nzxt.com/new/products/fan_control/sentry_mesh). The reason I'm going with the Mesh is because the mount of the front radiator is mesh. Also I want to have all 5 channels on the controller have 4 fans each. How would the wiring go on that.

If you only have one monitor you could go with a much cheaper gpu like JTHMfreak said, you would probably be set with one 680 or 690. Also duncan33303 on youtube has a nice tutorial on how to build a computer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPHCBWayEsYthumb.gif

I might do live streaming, but definitely recording and posting on youtube.

Edit: Wimmer137, that video was really helpful.

It's not worth the price difference to pick a 680 over a 670 when they are only at most 10% apart, the 7970 is really hot at the moment and is the best right now with the way its drivers are working.

Alright, I looked into the gtx 670. They do offer an overclocked 4gb version thats about half the cost as the 680 so I guess I'll go with that one. Only thing is that they don't offer it with a water block so that will be another thing that I need help with.
you should probably learn more about overclocking the gpu first before you start worrying about water cooling it, since the main reason for water cooling is foe more extreme temps from a high oc
