AMD dropped the ball on the 8 Core Vishy's

Not a performance related thread, but why won't the 83xx series run on existing AM3+ 970 chipsets if it already supports 125w Bulldozers?

Basically you now need a 990 now to run a 83xx series. That basically makes it pointless to go AMD now as you have to buy a 100 buck or more motherboard to even run a 83xx series processor.990 chipsets aren't cheap

You can run an i5-i7 easily on a 50-75 motherboard, depending on the features you want.

Basically this makes AMD less affordable in the high end lol

You have to buy AMD's high end 990 chipset to even run a 8 Core Vishy. Not all 970's can even run 83xx

look at the support list on this board, its even a rev3 AM3+ 970 board( pure mid-range) and won't run a 8 core Vishy

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4385#

the B75 is like 75 bucks from Intel and its a much superior chipset over the 990 and costs half as much.

Not being an Intel Fanboy on this, but this is a dumb issue for AMD to let happen

Not all 970 boards, even if AM3+. 970 should support 8 Core across the board, 880g is the low end so why are certain 970 boards not allowing 83xx even though they allow 125w processors.

look at this one from Gigabyte, its a fairly new 970 board and even on rev3.....

The reason they are not supporting the new 8 cores is because they simply do not have the vrm phases OR cooling for the phases. It's to prevent explosions basically.

It has nothing to do with the 970 chipset at all, as my 970a-ud3 (8+2 phase heatsinked) has support, and I am currently running my 8350 at 4.6ghz on it.

What's with the amount of stupidity on ocn recently.... My 970 chipset can run it just fine. If a board does not support it, its not amd's fault its the mobo's manufacturer. Jeez.

All I am saying don't assume that all 970 boards can run 83xx....

970 is midrange and if not all of them can run a 83xx, then that means u have to buy a high end 990 this point going forward if u want guaranteed compatibility.

i7 2600k can run on any low end H61 even if u can't overclock it.
