[DF] Why Electronic Arts Will Never Be Great Again

Maybe there's a reason Consumerist.com readers voted EA the worst company in the country earlier this year.

Keep in mind that EA had to beat out Sony (SNE), Best Buy (BBY), and Comcast (CMCSA) in heated rounds before dethroning Bank of America (BAC) at the final. You have to be pretty bad to stink in the eyes of the masses against those companies.

At the time, voters were simply upset with EA's penchant for squeezing the life out of small developers it acquires and the way it was wedging micro-transactions into so many of its games.

That hasn't changed. If anything, it's gotten worse. The reason FIFA 3 and Battlefield 3 are being tagged as potential billion-dollar-a-year franchises is that physical sales are being enhanced by the digital sales that weren't there before.

No one is going to argue that digital isn't the future. The packaged-goods format is fading, and investors in EA have far less to worry about than GameStop (GME) shareholders. EA creates the content. Save for the EA Sports-related licenses, it owns the content.

Source

Even for investors, EA is no longer a golden child.... I wonder why? Don't know if I posted this right.

Isn't this the second year in a row?

Honestly, after the free game fiasco, and them letting people keep their games, you think people would hate on them JUST a little less.

I can tell you from first hand experience, I was not too pleased with my recent BF3 purchase. Just my experience, but...1. I didn't buy the disc in order to download a bunch of crap to make it work. 2. Having to install other software to make it work is just stupid (orgin). 3. The game was a let down from previous versions.4. It's obviously following MOH, which I didn't want.

I'm a retired online gamer, I'm happy just playing the game, wasn't looking necessarily for online gaming (cause I'm really rusty, and now inexperienced). So for me the actually game meant a lot. Wow, what a disappointment, the unnecessary game pauses for story, the weird game stuff (mouse/keyboard) clicks. Overall, I was really disappointed. I know if I took the time to learn the online game, it might be more interesting, but, for me, the actual game has to be great. I loved the original battlefield, I played online and the game for a very long time... This doesn't work for me. The necessity of having to launch multiple programs to make it work is even more offensive. Does a game really need a web window, an orgin window and the game itself to make it work? Stupid

Shame on EA for making people HAVE to use their crap to make things work. Never again

It says that BoA was dethroned, so this is their first year and counting. I get a feeling it won't stop at one unless BP pops another blowout preventer.
