WD RMA question

I bought WD black 2 TB drive two years ago. It recently developed the uncorrectable sectors. I live in a foreign country. The drive was bought in the US. I couldn't find my country in the list on wd.com, so I e-mailed them about RMA. They said that they didn't accept shipping from my country, but if I had the receipt of purchase, they would help. Unfortunately I couldn't find the receipt so they denied to replace the drive. Did anybody have similar experience with Western Digital? How can I make them to honor the warranty?

With any product in any country, no receipt means no proof of purchase, you could have found it on the ground for all they know?
Just my 2cents.gif

If it was an online purchase since you say you bought it in the US wouldn't the website you bought it off contain a receipt?

Whenever you want to claim any warranty, you need to show proof of purchase. Proof of purchase is usually a receipt / invoice.

Yes, whenever we need to return anything, whether it be a motherboard, RAM, HDD, SSD, etc, you must show a receipt. As to your specific question, when I RMA'd a WD Blue for my mom through WD, I had to show the receipt. Just standard operating procedure.

While you were stateside, if you bought your WD Black drive off of an online store like Newegg or Amazon, you can just log into your account, save a copy of your invoice and send that to WD and you'll be squared away. smile.gif

They didn't ask you for your receipt when you had to RMA your HDD?

This is a pickel, i know that WD use the serial on the hard drives, to determine the manufacturing date and warranty specs.
Bring that up into the email and tell them you don't need a receipt, you lost it and the serial number will tell you all the information they need anyway.

I never needed proof of purchase when I RMA'd before. They just asked me the approximate time I bought it.
