WD always goes thru s/n if you are in a country they have listed. But if your somewhere else they might require receipt.

your best bet is to mail it to some1 you trust in a country where they do rma thru s/n and have them rma it for you and send it back to you.

If you bought the drive in the US, it may have a US only warranty.

That's one of the things that annoys me about so many products. Being in Canada, I see a lot of products that are warrantied only in the US (Laptops, monitors, hard drives, motherboards, etc.) - usually the manufacturer puts out more expensive versions with the same specs and a slightly different part number, and those are warrantied up here. Or they use region specific serial numbers like WD does. Any which way, it's not nice when you're overseas. They should have the option for you to pay and mail it in.

So what do I do? I just open a new case again and hope that this time I get more friendly rep? I badly need the replacement for my drive.

You may need to buy a new drive then.

In the other thread I saw somebody else posted that WD warranties are based upon the serial number. So WD is discriminating against me simply because I don't live neither in the US or EU?

Is this a lie?

When I selected Standard Replacement, The following message appears.

I continue and I can't find my country in the Distributors list.
