Quickfire Pro Problems

Thread Starter
So I had this keyboard delivered to work, plugged it in and it worked flawlessly. I brought it home and hooked it up to my main pc and got a usb device not recognized error. I checked the seating on both ends, and after a couple of tries in different usb ports it randomly worked, so I chalked it up to randomness and used it. I shut down my computer for the day. Next day I turn on my PC and get no keyboard in the bios. When it gets to windows I hear the usb connection sound repeat several times (not on/off, just on/on/on/on/on/on), then the usb device not recognized deal. So I reboot into bios settings with my old keyboard, and suddenly the quickfire works in the bios settings. reboot, same issue. I tried in N key, reboot. 6 Key, reboot. Different polling rates, reboot. Always the same in windows (x64).

I have an Asus M4A89GTD USB3 mobo.

So to recap, works fine with other computers, works fine in bios settings, boots to windows and stops working. It has to be something I'm doing wrong but I can't figure out what. It's a keyboard anyway, I shouldn't have to be an engineer to get it to work...

I think you need to update your mobo's drivers.

Then test the keyboard....

I am generally very good about installing the latest drivers when I do a clean install of windows, but since I'm asking for help I went ahead and downloaded everything and installed. No difference. Thing is, it doesn't matter if I used the 3.0 or the 2.0 ports, the result is the same.

I did some research and evidently I'm not the only one with this problem. From what I can loosely gather, it seems that this keyboard has some early versions that have a firmware that has compatibility issues with certain chipsets. Makes me wonder if that was why they went on sale at the CM store, to get rid of the older firmwares................

Unfortunately, the keyboard has compatibility issues with only one system in my house: the one I bought it for. Now, according to the CM website, I have to pay to ship it back to them to get it fixed/replaced. Considering it took over 10 days to get it, I feel like I'm putting a lot of time and effort into something that shouldn't require it.

Can you use a USB-to-PS/2 converter and test?

I can't find one close at hand but I'll dig a bit today. If not there are a ton lying around the office I can grab on Monday.

You mentioned returning the product did you happen to get an RMA number we can look up so we can rectify the situation?

No, to be honest I didn't want to blindly RMA the product because I was afraid I would just get another older firmware model or that maybe there was/wasn't a solution to my situation. Thanks for replying guys, makes me feel better about my CM purchases.

Let me know if you need a S/N or any other info for the tech support team.

I will hold off on the RMA until I hear about any other ideas to make this work.
