7950 and 7900 GTX

Thread Starter
The 7900 GT is a big disappointment to me, it's performance is not like I though it'll be. I've been reading around and some people are saying the 7950 GT can be OC'd to a GTX, is that true? I've got a Valman VF-700. The reason I don't want a GTX is because it simple won't fit. I have 2 HDs, the IDE cable gets int he way (yeah..it's IDE) I've also heard the 7950 is nothing but problems, and people have been saying the GTX isn't such a good card either cause it keeps crashing and whatnot, one of my friends BFG 7900 GTX just stopped working one day. So is it possible to go from 7950 GT to 7900 GTX (I buy BFG cards)

BFG 7950 GT
1170 million vertices/sec.
45.7GB/second memory bandwidth

BFG 7900GTX
1440 million vertices/sec.
52.4GB/second memory bandwidth

does OC'ing bring those numbers up?

thanks for your time in advance.

I was just thinking that, hows the X1900XT compared to a 7900GT? (my PSU is 480 W, Antec Truepower 2.0, duel 12V rail, 18A on each)

A X1900XT kills a 7900GT, smokes a 7950GT, and surpasses an overclocked 7900GTO. Once you over clock a X1900XT the only things that will beat it are the X1950XT/XTX series and the 8800GTS/GTX series.

that link.... http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2858&p=5 , If the x1900xt was OC'd, would it come close to the 7900 GTX?

I have no idea...but you should have looked at the bottom graph too. The top one has no AA, while the bottom has beautiful 4xAA. The x1900XT beats a 7900GTX with the AA ramped up, by about 1fps.

They replaced the x1900xt with the x1950xt so most x1900xt's nowadays are overpriced

How much are you looking to spend?
