7950 and 7900 GTX - Page 2

The X1950XT is better and about tha same price as the X1900XT (256mb). You can't even buy the 512mb verison, as it's the same thing as the X1900XTX.

I'll have to email the owner of the store and ask, I can spend around 400 with taxes included CDN. I mainly use www.canadacomputers.com as a guide, cause the that small store bases their prices on CC. it has no x1950xt listed, just asus x1900xt. the asus x1900xt is about 339.99, the tax is 14% so thats $387.58

Try comparing the cards.
You can overclock there, too.

I'll just add in that it's "just" the therotical specs, the "true" specs are often determined by drivers and configurations.

You might actually get a bigger performance boost going dual-core.

If you're looking for cheaper cards though around 7900GT performance(does not sound like it ), here's one.

I will? I really don't care about future proof, I just need this to last till next year. From what I've heard AMD's single cores do better than duel cores unless it's FX. generally speaking.

Stick with the single core. Any dual core (A64) at less than 2.53ghz will do worse than what you have now. A X1900XT will bottleneck your system, as will anything higher. What is your ram configurion?(include timings and models of each stick if possible) 3 x 512mb probably is not good.

3x 512 kingston valueram(2x512 Duel channel, and another 512, I no AMD doesn't like valueram or more than 2 sticks of ram), they say it runs DDR400, but really runs DDR333 according to CPU-Z and BIOS. so I had to OC it in bios, so I figured might as well bring it to 2.5 GHz. Im also gettin some OCZ 2gb kit platinum edition. my timings now are...2.5-4-4-9. command rate is 2T, running at 253 MHZ(ram). when you say bottleneck, do you mean CPU speed? or ram? Cause if it's ram then I'll pickup the ram kit first. also, if this helps, I' plugged in a friends 7900GTX and his ram the ocz platinum edition DDR400, and no FPS improvement in Day Of Defeat Source. in fact I got 20 less then he gets, (CPU @ 2.2)

Appreciate the help.
