Need a new subwoofer.

Thread Starter
I came from a bose acoustimass sub before the one I have now,

the one I have now is a JBL arc sub 8. and it is not a big improvement over the acoustimass, the sub keeps bottoming out. but when I turn it down my bose 201's(series 4) completely defeat the sub when it comes to bass output.

I was thinking the klipsh sub from newegg.

What do you think? btw these are all connected to a yamaha receiver.

I would say that this 12" sub would be much more satisfying It costs the same $177 and has an insane warranty. 7 years for the subwoofer and 2 years for the amplifier. Which its not that hard to replace an amp if your warranty is over.

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=303-432

Being 12" you'll get a much fuller sound. And having a high-excursion surround it will enable much deeper notes that will rattle your spine when a bomb goes off or if your just listening to some deep bass lines.

Even though it has an rms of 200 watts it'll be more than enough for use inside, but don't worry about that because the other sub you posted runs on the same power.

All in all I would say that it is a much better sub for the money, and the warranty is just insane.

I prefer LFE for multi-channel music and movies.

This appears to have the same amp as the Klipsch, the enclosures are nearly the same size too. Driver size aside, the differences been the two are minimal. Being that the BIC is $120 cheaper, I would lean towards that direction.

Krakin, don't get caught up on the whole driver size debate. There are 10 and 12" drivers out there with barely any bass and 6.5" woofers that dig really deep. X-max, sensitivity, FS, and other parameters determine how well a driver is suited for bass duty. There are advantages to having a larger cone for low frequency reproduction, but it's not everything.

yeah, the only time you can really go comparing size of woofer is withing the own brand/line of subs.

I just swapped a 12" into a setup that initially utilized a 15" and because the 12 is just a much better driver my volume and low bass extension both dramatically improved

I didn't mean to start this comparison I meant to try and point out that the excursion was higher while coming with a lower rated range of frequencies it can hit. I own a 12" made by JBL in my truck that is much better then my some of my friends that have one or two 15's.

So you can compare specifications all day. But all in all it does come down to how it sounds with the setup of the room, SPL, and personal preference. No intention arguing driver size.

And what I meant by a fuller sound was that it could sound more distinct.
