Bose CineMate GS Series II Home Theatre System for Desktop PC?

Thread Starter
Hi,

I have a Bose CineMate GS Series II Home Theatre System lying around, bought it a few years ago but never really used it. Forgot how much I paid for it but I think it was on sale at the time and I got it for $500 or something.

Anyway, I was wondering if I could put this thing to good use by connecting it to my desktop PC. If I wanted to do this, what would I need? Do I need a specific sound card in order to support the sound system or is this not possible?

Product details: http://www.bose.ca/controller?url=/shop_online/home_theater/simplified_home_theater/cinemate_series_ii/index.jsp#input_output

Hopefully the sound/audio experts here can give me some pointers. I'm willing to bet this system will sound better than my Corsair SP2500s, right? lol

Thanks in advance!

Hmm, seems like I completely forgot about this thread.

Does anyone know if it's possible to use this sound system for PC? If so, what will I need in order to do so?

Well it appears this system has a digital connection. First try plugging it in digitally to your motherboard to see if it works. You'll need this cable.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Premium-6FT-Digital-Toslink-Audio-Optic-Cable-Optical-Fiber-S-PDIF-Cord-Wire-DVD-/400256312075?pt=US_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item5d3122a30b

If it doesn't work then you'll probably will need a receiver to power them.

Try running it with the optical line from your board. To the bose should be just fine. If you can't run the optical cable grab a 3.5mm headphone male end to 2 rca red/white cable from your local electronic store and it will work. Since bose systems are self powered it will sound amazing.

Edit: Forgot to mention. Make sure to install the sound drivers for the asus board so you can have access to the optical port. Otherwise that port will act as if its not there. Then within the volume control for playback set the sound to go to the digital output and you will be set.

thanks for the advice. Looks like this particular model doesn't have the optical line, just the red and white cables for left/right speakers.

Will this cable work? I am assuming I will be pluggin in the red/white from the sound system into this adapter, then plugging in the adapter into my motherboard's 3.5mm audio jack.

You don't have to buy any cables, the stereo cable is already included with the system. It comes standard with all systems thumb.gif

You're probably right. But I bought this system quite a few years ago, just never got around to using it much. Moved a few times in between so I probably lost the stereo cable that it initially came with.

I went ahead and bought the stereo to RCA adapter cable, hopefully it works. These things are cheap anyway, only a few bucks a piece.

Ohh, I misread your post, didn't see that you purchased that a year ago. My bad! In that case that connector will work with no problems.

Question about the bose system now. Do you have the interface module or how does the system get its audio in. If need be snap a pic of the system itself and the back bottom of the sub where all the connections are. Lets ensure you get the correct piece. Cause the headphone to RCA which you showed most likely the wrong one. And take a pic of the interface module too. This is the small black box with the rca in and optical in. This piece connects to the bottom of the sub.

This was the cable I was talking about 3.5mm Male Mini to 2-RCA Male Audio Y-Cable
