Fact of the matter is if grub messes up either way and you still want to use Linux ( assuming you go your way ) you'd still have to fix grub. If it messes up on a single drive dual boot, you'd also still have to fix it. But the chances of grub messing up from daily usage is slim to non. If he wants pure Windows back it's a simply boot of the windows cd and 3 commands to be completely free and rid of any traces of Linux. If he updates Windows and it rewrites the mbr then it's a simple grub-install grub-update from a live disk. And any other situation is virtually just as easy.
It's not whether I like the opinion or not, it's simply more headache for the op to have more options than he's use to. He wants a straight up in your face guide on how to do something, he doesn't want options.
