Cards are luck of the draw for overclockability, but that sucks. I got a good overclocking reference card at 1270MHz Core Clock and 1635MHz Memory Clock at 1.212V's completely stable. Only 1310MHz Core Clock at 1.3V's though. I would expect more from a Matrix. frown.gif

Got it for $400 with a Koolance waterblock. So happy. smile.gif

Why not use MSI Afterburner? I much prefer that for overclocking.

MSI Afterburner doesn't allow you to change the GPU, memory, and VDDCI voltage on the 7970 Matrix. GPU Tweak is a heavily modified version of Afterburner, so in reality it's not much different.

Most Matrix 7970's are hitting 1300+ on air, so I would definitely swap out yours and see if you have better luck with the next one, unless you already pushed past 1230mhz. thumb.gif

Thread Starter
Update: I'm hitting a brick wall after 1250mhz core - its pretty stable at stock voltage, bumping it up a bit tho +30mv (1280mv)..anything after that it artifacts after a few minutes in heaven frown.gif

Memory looks ok tho - i think it can do 1800mhz with a slight 50mv bump in voltage (1650mv)

Power set to +20%, LLC is default at 75%.

Should i increase VDDCI voltage maybe? I havent touched that.

I have the same "problem" No matter what, when im trying 1260mhz or more i get artifacts, even with realy high voltage, i even maxed out the voltage but nothing. Have you found something new? Any solution? Or is ti just a not so good card we both have?
Realy dissapointed...mad.gif

I have a 7970 lighting that does the same thing I think AMD has done something I feel lke mine I can move the slider for volatage but it does nothing whatsoever but artifact like crazy. Just a therory I think this all started happening after the NVIDIA scandal with voltages then Gigabyte followed. Iam probally wrong just a hunch but its really weird how you hit a wall with a card that has great temps and lots of head room.
