Recommend a mech keyboard to me!

Thread Starter
Hi. I'm a noob regarding keyboards and I am going to buy a mechanical keyboard soon. I've done a little research myself, but still have no idea which of mechanical keyboards are worth buying and which are bad. So I'm asking for your help OCN keyboard gurus!

My preferences:
-Switch: Out of cherry switches black or brown would suit me I think. I have tried cherry blacks and blues. The blues felt horrible IMO and the black weren't too heavy at all so I guess reds would be too light for me.
-I'd love to have NKRO. Just incase.
-PS/2 over usb
-Dedicated media keys
-Full keyboard not a tenkeyless one

I've been looking at some keyboards and the ones that currently seem the most promising are:
Logitech G710+ because of the featureset. Negative things are price and unsure of build guality.
Ducky Shine II for high build quality.
Both of them are 160€ here in finland. Filcos in finland are at the same pricepoint too but for some reason I don't find their models attractive.
I'd love to hear suggestions or experiences of the aforementioned keyboards. Thanks in advance.

dont know about finland prices but from what i hear ducky shines are great products. I own a razor black widow since i game on and off and i like the feel of the keyboard. Honestly from my personal experience you gotta try out the keyboard before you buy it. Try going to a microcenter if they have any in finland, or any major store that owns mech keyboards and try them out for 5-10 mins. Its always best to try out a product before you buy it for a few minutes because your going to be using it for quite a long time. that's my 2 cents, hope it helps.

In my city I haven't found any other mech keyboards than steelseries 6gv2 to be avaible for tryouts.I loved the black cherry feel compared to my friends blackwidow with blue cherrys.I would love to try brown cherries, but haven't had a chance yet. I don't think the K90 would suit me, because I have no need for macro keys so it would just use my deskspace for no benefit.

I've owned a Razor ultimate, and Mionix Zibal 60 before .. but nothing has come close to the feel and features of my Ducky Shine with brown MX cherry switches smile.gif

Not only do the keys feel incredible, but the construction and quality of the keyboard are super sturdy and strong.

The lighting is amazing, far to many options you couldn't want for more .. other than the ability for RGB customizing of LED's.

The layout is is easy to use, with large space bar, large back key and enter .. and the caps lock lights up when in use but not if it's not, making it wicked easy to see whats going on.

It has some pretty decent shortcut keys that really come in handy imo .. especially the My Computer one.

Another con is that this board does not come with a wrist rest, however it is possible to purchase one separately should you desire.

The minimal look is fantastic aesthetically, with simple ducky logo only displayed on the space bar .. so there's no hideous eyesore in the top right corner etc to spoil the keyboard sleek look.

I highly recommend the Ducky Shine range .. good luck with your quest thumb.gif

The Ducky Shine II definitely is tempting. biggrin.gif The problem though is that I could get a filco keyboard for the same money. How big is the quality difference in reality between filco and ducky keyboards? Some people would think that I'm stupid if i bought a ducky, because the filco quality supposedly is so much better.

Just get a quickfire rapid 10 keyless with cherry blacks if you don't want reds and call it a day. If you really want little frilly things like backlight and what not look into a ducky shine 2, iirc they come in all different switch types. I personally prefer reds the best for gaming having tried all the cherries myself.

I need numpad so tenkeyless isn't an option.

For all the bells and whistles as well as decent build quality get the Ducky wink.gif
