Just got the Black Widow Ultimate Stealth Edition - How do I use this thing properly?

Thread Starter
So, for the past two years I've been using an £8 keyboard from Wilkinson's, and I've loved the thing. It has survived so much beating and suffering over the years and has yet to break. The girlfriend has been trying to buy me a new keyboard for God knows how long now and lately I finally caved and let her buy me the Razer Black Widow Ultimate Stealth Edition for my birthday. Now I'm just prompted with the difficulty of "proper" use.

Reading up on Mechanical keyboards, both here and elsewhere I hear that they are usually a lot quieter than normal keyboards and you don't even have to come close to "bottoming out." I also read up on this specific keyboard, and a lot of places said that it's an insanely good keyboard when it comes to mechanical keyboards and is certainly a top contender for gaming.
However, I seem to be making a heck load of noise when using it as I automatically bottom out and hit the keys fairly hard due to regular usage of a normal keyboard. How did you guys manage to condition yourselves in order to use a mechanical keyboard correctly? And will "furious" typing and bottoming out damage the keyboard whilst I'm trying to learn the "proper" technique?

I don't think there is a "proper technique". It's just a keyboard. You got MX blue switches, hence the noise. My K90 for instance has red switches and they don't make that clicky noise.

I do have to say that a mechanical keyboard needs some getting used to but give it a few days and you will never go back to membrane switches.

EDIT: sorry, it seems I missed that it's the Stealth Edition. My bad.

BW Ultimate Stealth should be Cherry MX browns which have tactile feel but no audible click.

You'll just have to get used to the actuation point on the switches. You'll only pick it up with use. Bottoming out shouldn't damage the keyboard.

The bottoming out noise can be reduced a lot by putting O-rings on the keys. It is also nice if you don't want to learn the "proper" technique thumb.gif

I don't know I just bottom out anyway, in my opinion it sounds nice. I mean obviously I don't bottom out with 100% force but I find it doesn't hurt to bottom out lightly.

It's what makes mechanical keyboard mechanical thumb.gif

EDIT: By the way I find O-Ring kind of kills the typing feel of mechanical keyboard for me. Tried it once and took it out after 30 min.
