The article does not say how much money they received in "Donations" for these illegal crappy movies, but you can safely assume that the law knows exactly how much they made from paypal records.
I would also think it would be safe to guess these profits had something to do with the dollar amount of the fines. I seriously doubt these guys idiots were doing this out of the kindness of there heart for free.
I could not imagine how bad quality was! Why not just get netlix for $10 a month?

It's amazing to see the entertainment industry care so much about our safety that they pay law enforcement agencies to track these people down and punish them.

Heh, well they were planing to distribute or even sell the pirated movies. I don't think any one has gotten THIS much of a penalty for only viewing pirated material. The people that have gotten hit with big lawsuits or even jail time thus far have been people who were seeding on a p2p network and that is what they got in trouble for.

Still way out of line I think, but then we may not be privy to all information as well. From what the media gave us though....the sentencing was completely asinine.

^ Never heard of imagine selling movies... if you ever go to a big city (NYC, for example) pick up a copy sold off the sidewalk and you'll see those are usually local/off-line pirates.

Seriously? Seems fair that they got that long of a sentence for video taping a movie!? The fact that they wouldn't pay is irrelevant, if you have no intention to pay for something you don't have the right to watch/own it, that's as simple as that.
