No it was an Aussie article about something that happened in the US, not sure where the US coverage of it is though.

Ridiculous.

This is why so many people have little respect for the law. Corporate interests only.

Political correctness and apologising for our past "misdeeds" are some of the favorites hobbies of our governments since the 90's.

IMO, this is the biggest problem with society today. This fear is what prevents things being said and done that need to be.

As for gang rapes of little kids, drunken driving, etc. I could care less.

LOL. Wow.

By the way (I'm so, so sick of seeing this) It's "I COULDN'T care less". Not "Could care less". The latter implies you actually care.

anAppleADay is ridiculous in all threads...

The only "fat cats" as they're being called in this thread I support are the people from TBBT. Oh and for a one-off Sony (Skyfall).

The fine is absolutely and utterly ridiculous though, especially when compared what rape/manslaughter/etc... gets you there.

Yeah, because we all know that people who are convicted of murder only get 23 or 30 months on average, right?

PLEASE.

The average sentence for murder is 200 months (16.6 years ... 13.3 years after "good behavior")

Last time I checked 23 months is < 200 months ... assuming that this case was "average", which it wasn't.

The sentence isn't fair whatsoever, in my opinion, because chances are they've made a lot of revenue off these illegal activities and here's hoping they are forced to pay 10x as much to serve as a lesson for future criminals. As for gang rapes of little kids, drunken driving, etc. I could care less. It has nothing to do with the topic at hand -- the fact that idiots who think they're above the law -- continually rape Hollywood's bottom line by allowing for alternative avenues for viewing the golden era of filmmaking.
My $0.02...PEACE

It has to do with the topic: why would someone commit a crime that isn't life-threatening get more charges than a murderer? Money shouldn't be more important than someone's life.

And for the ''cretin'' bit, please show us that you can use your brain instead of attacking people.

I guess it's better to kill somebody for money and buy those movies instead of pirating them.
Shoplifting is impossible, at least at stores I visit.

I know right...you could rape someone and get 3 years (out in half for good behavior) and copyright isn't actually a theft because no merchandise was actually stolen.

Actually shoplifting is incredibly easy if you know how. I know of some guy who used to shoplift $150K+ worth of clothing, movies, games and small electronics (phones, MP3 players etc.) every year for about 5 years. He has been on national TV a few times explaining how to do it without getting caught.

Also when he did get caught, he got less of a sentence than these people who are pirating movies. He got 7 months in prison, 200 days of community service and a £500 fine.
