[TR] Sock-wielding movie pirates go to prison - Page 9

And he also didn't say that these people wouldn't be out in 11 months with good behavior, which is most likely, since that is what they were just sentenced to, and rarely do people serve their full sentence.

Point being, by and large, the silly rant that people are making about how murders and rapists spend less time in prison than what these two WILL, is (bell curve) BS hyperbole.

If it's copyrighted then yes.

If you google "piracy increases sales" you will get plenty of articles with the studies in that "prove" it.

LOL...there are no "studies"

Just anonymous surveys done by a tiny fraction of the people who are pirating. Yeah, pretty credible.

However, this is another example of the need for strong universal legislation on piracy. They've only just recently figured out that pirates are guilty of something, but now they need figure out how to charge them. All the authorities have is the publishers whispering in their ear that their action could have cost them millions so they have to sentence on that. We need more law AGAINST piracy to PROTECT the offenders. These sentences are way out of line. I don't think I will sleep better at night knowing that a person that wanted to sell me a cam of a movie is in jail longer than some one that might want to steal my car. Perhaps other sentences need to be made more harsh instead of reducing piracy's penalties, but balance is needed.

And since Avatar and Iron Man 2 are copyrighted, the answer is yes. Most likely all the movies named in the indictment were copyrighted. There aren't a whole lot of movies that are shown in movie theaters that AREN'T copyrighted (even privately made movies and company films for employees are generally copyrighted).

Between 2009 and 2011 IMAGiNE illegally recorded at least 20 films, according to the indictment, including Avatar and Iron Man 2.

I said that as a response to Stuuut who was responding to anAppleADay who was saying the sentences given to these people aren't harsh enough, and he has an image in the same post that is most likely copyrighted.

Ridiculous.

It's because those are all crimes against individuals. Nobody cares about individuals.
This is a crime against a major corporation. And we all know that corporations don't take crap from nobody!
