should i keep upping the bus speed?

Thread Starter
hey i currently have my sandy OC'd to 2800 (260x11 with a temp of 40 at full load) and id like to go higher but i remember reading someone suggesting keeping the HT Link around 1000 for these processors. it has been stable for two days and my HT Link is currently 1040 Mhz (260x4). do i just raise the bus speed some more to get some more juice out my sandy or is it more ideal to play with a different setting to get more 'juice'?

Keep increasing.

Before doing this, though, reduce the FSB:HT Link ratio, to say 3.0x instead of 4.0x

ok, i understand that. but can u clear something up for me?

say i change the FSB:HT Link ratio to 3.0x and i still have the bus speed set to 260. will my cpu still be running at a true 2800Mhz and my HT link will DROP to 780?

if so, what would be the disadvantage of this setting versus the 4.0x setting?

hey i just did what u said and set the LDT:FSB ratio to 3.0x and then i upped the bus speed to 275 and it wouldnt load into windows. it said corrupt system file or something like that and basically suggested booting the win xp CD to press 'r' and repair windows.. i changed it back to my previous setting and it loaded windows jsut fine.. what does this mean??

HOLY CRAP i just did some experimenting by lowering the LDT:FSB ratio to 3.0x and KEEPING my bus speed setting the same. WINDOWS LOADED 874 TIMES FASTER THAN IT USUALLY DOES!!!!!!! is there any disadvantages of having this setting versus 4.0x???

EDIT: i restarted windows twice now and i think although it shows the XP logo with blue bars under it for only a second, i think once it gets in windows it starts loading everything? while as before it was loading everything while letting me see the xp logo and blue bars and as soon as i got in windows there was no loading to be done? is this correct?

That doesn't make any sense to me. Lowering the LDT multiplier should make the system slower. Theoretically, the ideal overclock would have the highest possible FSB with relatively low CPU and LDT multipliers. You want the LDT as close to 1000MHz as possible, but I think up to 1100MHz or so shouldn't pose any stability problems and would be even faster. If your HT link is 1040 right now you don't need to lower the multiplier unless you really start to crank up your FSB (which you should).

I think you need to raise your CPU VCORE. When you increase the bus speed, the CPU clock speed goes up even more... in this case, all the way up to 3025 MHz (275 x 11 = 3025). You'd probably need over 1.5v assuming your CPU can even go that high. Try using a lower cpu multiplier, like 10 or 9.

See if you can get your CPU running 333 x 9, that would be an awesome overclock. Use an LDT multiplier of 3x so it works out to about 1000MHz.
