Windows 7 or Windows 8?

Thread Starter
Want to run something like XBMC or Plex on my HTPC (Acer Aspire Revo 1600). In terms of speed and reliability should I go with Windows 8 for this? I would like to be able to leave my computer on for weeks without any video frame rate stutter.
Thanks,
My System

Either would be fine, but I would go with Windows 7. Reason being, its a rock solid OS with stable drivers.

Agreed whole-heartedly. Plus, W8 annoys the crap out of me. I've run 3 different versions on a touchscreen AND a desktop and I don't want it on anything I plan on using. Drivers were a major issue.

I made the switch over to W8 from W7 and wouldn't have done otherwise if it were not for Start8. It's that bad. Also would not pay more than $15 for a W8 Pro.

For stability go with W7, i'm sure in a year or so W8 will be fine but at the moment go with W7.

An upgrade license for Windows 8 can always be had on the cheap with Windows 7 I think. Personally, I went with W8 for my HTPC because Metro is extremely nice to have with an imprecise wireless mouse across the room. thumb.gif

From my experience with windows 8. I would vote for windows 7 for now. Maybe ill give windows 8 a few months or so before i go back to it. The major reason why i went back was drivers stabilities. after numerous reformats and reinstalling windows 8, i occasionally got bsods ( all drivers i installed was labeled for windows 8). Wasn't bothered to find the culprit.

Honestly, try it yourself! if you enjoy it stick with it! if not just go back to windows 7.
