[PA]400,000 apps in the App Store are never downloaded

Quote:
Would you be surprised to hear that more than 60% of the apps in the App Store have never been downloaded, even once? That's the conclusion of analytical firm Adeven. The latter even counted the number of flashlight apps and found that Apple iPhone users in need of a quick light have 1,899 choices. Christian Henschel, Adeven CEO, said that there are only a "couple of thousand apps" that get downloaded in number from Apple's on-line applications store.

Source

Just goes to show how inflated the claims about how important each platforms respective App store is. Truth is, all major platforms could easily accommodate the majority of users as most of the "big guns" are covered, even on Windows Phone. The only litmus test for such a large number of apps is perception where people equate numbers with quality.

^ This.

It'd be funny to see Apple's claims when/if they purge the App Store. tongue.gif

I see absolutely no issues with this.

The greater the amount of choices available, despite having a redundant cycle ensures consumer choices and greater sample variance of integrated app features. Far worse on the other end of the spectrum is a lack of choice.

Only on OCN would someone post a complant about TO MANY choices and make a bold assumption that people instantly equate numbers with quality.

Keep in mind that all apps are not given a fair light. To keep on topic with the flashlight one, the most popular ones will show up first in any searches, and older, crappier, not downloaded ones may even fall back far enough in the list that they are truncated, and not even searchable. I fail to see how that helps anyone but the App store counter.

Huh? I don't think anyone's complaining. I was saying that I feel sorry for the people who make the apps. I never would've thought as many as 400,000 apps wouldn't be downloaded. Those poor app developers..

Choice is irrelevant or else these apps would be download at least once, instead of not at all. Redundancy is irrelevant too, as the well established developers will always have an advantage over the indie studios. You can make no claims about either lest you know the composition of the app store and the composition of the apps that people download. After all, on average people only have 41 apps downloaded and installed of which we don't know.

That's alright, he was most likely talking about my comment in the OP.

A lot of the apps are just useless anyway. I'm a bit surprised at the big number though.
