Help needed for Intel Rig

Thread Starter
Ok guys, I am the leader of a Gaming team and I need a good computer for light gaming and some serious editting. I am looking at a price tag of around $2000 or so maybe a little. I am looking for a good GPU as well either a gtx 680 from EVGA, ASUS, or MSI, or a 7970 from ASUS, MSI. I also need a good mobo. Nothing cheap under $150. I have already picked out the SSD and HDD. No need for links, but please just list the parts.
Update: After a while I will put the top two Builds in the poll and we will vote on the best build.

well .... get a i7 Ivy , get the 680gtx the one with 4gb ( there are some ) ....

the mobo ... serious editing u say ? well , i heard Thunderbolt was good for editing from a external thunderbolt HDD , so ... if u are going that route . the mobo is gonna be a Z77

i cant recomend the X79 because there's going to be a new socket coming up ( i know its going to affect mid end too) but with a 1155 u will spend less , and you can maybe Watercool it , with that 2k cap

CPU : I7 Ivy bridge-K LGA1155

mobo: GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UP4 TH (if u want the wifi and bluetooth card , its like 30$ expensive , but its the same mobo and this one got PS2 port just in case lol)

RAM: im bias here , get a Gskill 16gb 2133 , lower the CL the better but expensive (might be a overkill but when u have like 100 chrome tabs and Photoshop and Illustrator open at the same time , its gonna eat it lol)

GPU: 680GTX EVGA 4gb ram

PSU: 700w 80+ gold one

hmmm u said u got SSD and HDD . now u need a "cool" case but that is your preference smile.gif

I figured the quad-channel 32Gb of memory and 6-core Sandy Bridge-E i7 would be worth the price if you are doing heavy editing/rendering (and 2011 provides a better upgrade path compared to socket 1155). Plus with the H100 you could probably get 4.4Ghz or more.

Socket 2011/X79 will be compatible with Ivy Bridge-E which will release Q3 2013. Socket 1155/Z77 on the other hand is dead after the current Ivy Bridge processors. Thus, going with 2011 now will provide a solid upgrade path vs 1155.

I will be using Sony Vegas Pro for video, Gimp 2.0 and Adobe Photoshop for Images, and I havent decided what to use for audio.
