I think its Bull... Anandtech had no issues with Windows 8 on the rMBP when scaled to 150%... They said it was "very usable"

It's more that they just don't have high enough scaling options. Windows has always kind of sucked at this. I remember trying to use a 15" 1200p laptop with windows xp-that was not fun either. windows 7 made 1080p useable, but it seems like windows 8 hasn't really given use support 1080+ resolutions.

they probably also thought windows 7 was fine too (there's no difference so far). it is definitely useable, but it definitely sucks. i had it at 200% and everytime i load a webpage i have to zoom a ton. and the fonts, icons etc are definitely not retina. it's fine for gaming but that's it

it's such a pain i uninstalled windows and am just gaming in osx for right now, despite the fact i get half the frames. that's how much it sucks

Why Microsoft didn't include full retina support in Windows 8 out of the box is beyond me. What will happen when we start to get 4K displays in the next year or two? Will Microsoft release a patch for it or will they do nothing?

Can we please stop calling certain resolutions "retina"?

Its like singling out HDDs with capacities over 1TB and calling them "library drives" because a company called their 1TB HDD a "library drive".

Then you get dumb statements in comments and reviews like "it doesn't even have a library drive!" etc.

im totally cool with people calling their 1tb drives library drives. retina display is called retina because you cannot see pixels unless you get closer to the screen than intended. and this is accurate (ime, though i wear glasses and my eyesight is mediocre)

"High res" in the Windows PC world usually means 1920x1200 in a 15".
Nothing does right now, but still 1080p at 11 inches on a Zenbook is pretty small. So if scaling works on that, I can't see why it wouldn't work on this.

Yeah, it probably is.

Yeah that's true. I think it needs to approach it as Apple does.

i wish they would. the reality is windows is behind linux in terms of scaling. windows is bulky and outdated. linux+open office should be eating their lunch, but linux doesn't have the advertising dollars. the only problem with linux as far as im concerned is lack of support for netflix.

of course apple is ahead of them both.

who needs to browse the interwebz @ 1600p?? don't understand why this is such a huge deal...... run your desktop in 1080p, and when you want to play a game set the default resolution to retina, it takes what, 2 seconds to switch?
