Nope. There's a concept called 'getting the best of both worlds'.

Exactly! I need it for Uni work - Visual Studio, Altera Quartus etc.

There are some minor issues with bootcamp, but there are ways around it.
Overall, I think Windows 8 is a significant improvement over Windows 7 for the rMBP.

what do you mean by "retina support?" does that include support for proper retina fonts, icons etc? does it resolve scaling issues? i'm not being facetious, just wondering if should grab a copy

I shouldn't have said nightmare- a more accurate description would be useable but not ideal. It works okay when you need Windows on a Mac but as others have said, it lacks the really nice things such as 4:1 interface scaling and 1:1 image resolution.

Why not? There is nothing else on the market like the 15" rMBP.

I've seen Windows 8 at 150% scaling on the rMBP and it looked fine, no scaling issues. Why do they insist on using 200% scaling and claim its what "most people" would require.

of course apple is ahead of them both.

I used Open Office for my entire first semester in college and it was horrible compared to Office.

I don't see how anyone would prefer Open Office to Office unless they can't afford it.

I would rather use Microsoft's web-based productivity suite over Open Office.

The GUI is horrible in comparison and just isn't logical.. There are an infinite number of ways that you can get a task done in Office.

Its like singling out HDDs with capacities over 1TB and calling them "library drives" because a company called their 1TB HDD a "library drive".
Then you get dumb statements in comments and reviews like "it doesn't even have a library drive!" etc.
Might have been said, but retina displayd were around before apple no? retina is coined as a technology not as an apple exclusive term. Thats like saying Stop calling SSD's memory because they were called ssd's?

the icons are tiny and reading webpages is a chore at 150%. sure some people might be ok with it (some people also like the hack that gives you full 2800x1800 desktop space in osx too). but i think the majority of people find it too small.

the gui is almost identical pre-ribbon office gui. ms office in osx is much closer to open office gui than office windows. if you like the ribbon that's your prerogative i guess, but i hate something that takes up that much space and just adds more layers of menus (and got rid of useful hotkeys) instead of having everything upfront. i only use ms office in osx because they kept the older interface (no ribbon)
