GTX 560 384 core 2.5G GDDR5 (OEM): add an extra 6-pin

Thread Starter
Just got a GTX 560 OEM card and this card has a really weird config. It has more cores and more graphics memory than 560 Ti -- 384 core and 2.5G GDDR5, but comes with only 1 6-pin power connector. As a result the clock rate is really low, 1104 MHz core and 1602 memory clocks. More spec here

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-560-oem/specifications

With the single 6-pin I was still able to OC it to 1240 MHz core and 1700 MHz memory very easily (didn't try to push it higher because I do worry about the single 6-pin limit). I think if it had 2 6-pins it really could be OC'ed to beat 560Ti.

I checked the PCB and did see the space reserved for the second 6-pin -- just no actual connector installed. Has anyone here have any experience with playing with this card? I noticed that in addition to a 6-pin connector, maybe a few resistors/capacitors/inductors may also be needed for adding the 2nd 6-pin connector?

Anyway, it looks like this card may have great potential...

Could you explain a bit why one should stay away from this card? I see a Chinese guy OC'ed this card to 822MHz core/2075MHz memory clk, with **a single 6 pin** connector, and got a 3dx11 score close to a reference 570. At that frequency, the 320bit memory bandwidth definitely will make a difference.

http://diybbs.zol.com.cn/59/231_584017.html

I understand that it may be YMMV on how much I can OC with a single 6-pin, but with a 2nd 6-pin I guess I can be more confident?

AFAIK, the extra connectors just help the PSU not be overloaded from a single connector and has nothing to do with the card itself. So, as long as you have a good PSU, you have nothing to worry about.

I thought the same thing also applies to the card, i.e., not overloading the power rail of a single connector in the card?
It's actually just an underclocked 560ti..
They've probably removed a power connector making the OEM's able to use cheaper power supplies and not really had overclocking in mind AT ALL. I wouldn't add your own 6 pin as you will probably ruin the card (it only takes a single bad solder) and it'll probably do nothing and de-valuate the card.

They've made it 2.5GB of VRAM for marketing purposes.. Gee OEM's are dodgy.

I see... thanks for all the replies/suggestions. I guess I'll just try some OC with the card as is.

Just overclock the card without touching the voltage, the card has a low memory clock but since it has a 320bit memory bus the memory bandwidth is the same as the normal GTX560 TI (128GB/s).
Its was probably severly underclocked to hit the target 150W TDP, I think you should be able to hit at least 1300MHz shader clock.

GTX560 TI 448 to be exact.

The 448 has 448 CUDA cores, this has 384 supposedly so it is a 560ti not a 560ti 448.
Should hit 1300MHz shader clock fine, he would be ok adding those last couple of milivolts for stability too.

OP should join a "GTX560 overclocking competition" rolleyes.gif

A GTX560 TI has a 256bit memory bus, his GTX560 OEM has a 320bit memory bus which makes it a crippled GTX560 TI 448 (Which was a crippled GTX570 to begin with). thumb.gif
Also, this is a GF110 based card, not GF114 like the GTX560 TI.
