Lubuntu 12.10 - Customization problems

Thread Starter
Hi, all. I just got Lubuntu 12.10 installed on my netbook because I was tired of Linux Mint - just had too many problems with it. I decided to go with Lubuntu because I had no problems with Kubuntu except not enough RAM - everything worked fine. But now I have problems with Lubuntu.

GTK3 applications do not theme properly. The colors aren't right, checkboxes don't show when they are checked, there is a solid color behind all text.

I cannot change my mouse cursor. It insists on using the standard white pointer, but all the other pointers (hand, busy, text cursor) change.

Anyone have any ideas?

edit: BTW, this theme worked perfectly in Mint XFCE

And you didn't have this problem with GTK3 apps in KDE? That is amazing because I do. I had to change to a color theme that was white backgrounds in the apps.

You might try seeing if you have lxappearence installed and if it isn't install it.

I'm not sure if I have any gtk3 apps installed on my openSuse PC - FF & LibreOffice work fine, but I think they are gtk2.
lxappearance is the default tool for changing themes in LXDE, I think. That's what I used to change the themes.

Hmm...Don't know what to tell you but in the last year seems like nothing GTK likes any non-GTK dark themes. I didn't have this problem before but now I do so make what you will but I say it's the GTK programs fault and I try not to use as much of them. Best thing I guess is to get some GTK themes and see if you can fix it but I'm not sure as I just don't bother with GTK.

frown.gif Maybe I'll have to try Kubuntu again - I upgraded the RAM, so it might work better.

I hope I helped in some way. But yeah...GTK outside of GTK3/2 is not fun. mad.gif Why it is viewed as the default for Linux I don't understand but I have to deal with it.

You mean Gnome? I love KDE, but it's more "heavyweight". XFCE was great, my issues with Mint weren't related to the DE, but I thought I would try LXDE because it's supposedly even faster than XFCE. And my netbook has never booted as fast as it does with Lubuntu, so I really wish it would work frown.gif

its viewed as default because way back qt wasn't FOSS so the GNU pushed massively for GTK. Gnome ended up hitting it big so when qt did become FOSS it was already to late to stop most developers from using it.

side question- what do you have against GTK?
