ATI X1300 Card not being recognized in Windows 8

Don't know if I should post this here or in the AMD/ATI board. I'm trying to install 8 on a friend's computer. I looked in Device Manager and it shows a basic Windows display driver. I tried Windows Update, no dice. I tried installing CCC 10.2 but according to the site, it is tailored to Vista, while being compatible with 7. I figured that most drivers that work on 7 work on 8, so I tried it out. It looked like everything worked alright. After installing, I couldn't find CCC in 8 and looking in device manager, the basic driver was still installed. Really not sure what to do here. The basic Windows driver obviously isn't going to cut it. Any help would be appreciated.

Even though the card is older, install the new drives from AMD, not old ones.

X1000 series is not supported in Windows 8 as the drivers no longer support the card. Until recently, the latest drivers supported HD 2000 series and above.

X1000 series is too old. And ATI/AMD are not releasing drivers for it anymore. This was the same situation that Nvida TNT series was in when Windows 7 came out. It's basically because the video cards were too old.

@OP: Try running the latest Windows 7 or Windows ViSTA driver for the x1300 and see if that works.

The Windows 7 drivers will fail to install, reporting an error that it cannot find a device to install. However if you then update the driver from Device Manager and direct it to the root:\ATI directory, Windows will install the driver correctly.

I modified the driver of an installer with the characteristics of X1300-1500.
You can find it here: http://www.alaricvs.it/ATI_Radeon_X1300-1500.zip
First, though, you have to uninstall all existing display drivers.
