High pitched sound when Folding@Home, not sure what

Okay, wasn't exactly sure where to put this....

But my computer has had a high pitched sound going on for a very long time. Usually, it corresponds to me turning on Folding@Home, though doesn't start right when I turn it on. Rather, it starts making the noise a period of time after I start the client, I guess when temperatures rise or something.

I can assure that the issue is not a fan. As non professional as it is, I reached in and stopped each fan individually to no change. So it is not a fan.

I just did a test, and it seems the issue only comes up when folding my GPU client. SMP client does nto do it.

Is it coil whine? My HD 570's used to make a high pitched noise when folding on them. I thought it was most likely coil whine. Well actually I was certain it was coil whine, because even when the cards were water cooled, they made the same noise...

I think that might be it... Which GTX 570 did you have? And is this issue correctable or not?

Well... I don't have to have my ear right up to the case to hear it. I have it on my desk and it is decently audible. I can hear it at my sink, which is about 12 feet away.

And just for reference, I put it at stock clock and the sound still comes up.

You could always RMA it. Its technically a defect, I guess. I don't know how harmful coil whine is to your card, but if you can wait for a replacement, there's nothing wrong with RMA'ing it

Yea I could hear mine at stock clocks and overclocked too. It's kind of hit or miss with getting a card that suffers from coil whine. If you haven't had it very long I guess you could try to have it replaced. But it's like trying to return a CPU or card that doesn't overclock well, nothing really wrong with it when they don't overclock so doesn't really warrant a replacement. But if you're not satisfied with it, sure try for a replacement.
