If you want to be sure, test it out for a couple of weeks. I had a board that would whine when I pushed a bit too much voltage, but it went away and I never returned it. Ive also read that you could put something on the coils to stop them from vibrating, but I'd be careful with that.

I've had the card for almost a year now and it has been this way the whole time. Only now am I getting around to finding out what it is.

Guys, this is what happens when you have your card clocked to a certain frequency. I've been over this with an SSD thread, and learned the original cause way back when RAM was doing normal GPU frequencies (666-1066MHz). This is the sound of high speed transfers and is nothing to worry about. Try this: Change the clock speed of your card, and you'll hear the pitch change when you start folding again. There is no reason to RMA, you'll get the exact same problem with any card running from about 850MHz till it goes out of human ranges for hearing.

I tested this theory. I can hear it at 434 core clock.

I'm going to bug Asus to see if I could get a replacement. If not, I'm not going to be too upset...

I tested in a friends system, didn't seem to make a noise. Put it back in mine, and it does it again, though mainly when I am running F@H, and sometimes when running other benchmarks. I'm not sure what it is. Could be the motherboards PCI slots... I'm really not sure.
Did you fold on it when it was in your friends system? Last thing it would be in the PCIe slots. What kind of power supply are you using?

Yes... I ran F@h in my friends rig and the sound definitely didn't show up.

My PSU is listed in the rig. PC P&C Silencer Mk II 750w

I think my next course of action is to commandeer a rig to test out if another GPU in my system makes the same noise. Thing is, I think I should stick with nVidia for this one...

Sounds like best course of action. Yes try another Nvidia GPU.
I was too lazy to click "view all" to find out what kind of PSU you have. tongue.gif

I suppose you asked to see if I had a POS PSU? rolleyes.gif I only buy quality part...

Silencer Mk II had some really good reviews, good price, and a 7 year warranty. Also, US company, and I have heard good things about their customer support and RMA service. I would almost prefer my PSU to need replacing versus my GPU, since Asus doesn't have great customer support.

It's a normal thing. Sometimes it will go away on cards sometimes it wont. Don't believe they will RMA the card but it's always worth a shot.

My 470 whines pretty good when I fold it OC'd as well (I have a third party cooler on it too) when I fold... I mean F@H is pretty demanding. Some cards get it, some don't, I'd say that's the end of the story, really.
