This shows how mature you are. I am OK with him having Ivy. If someone were to ask what to buy, I would tell them Ivy. It's tiring having you come into threads and tell others that your Ivy rig runs circles around Sandy bridge equivalents, because its 100% false. If you run Cinebench, it benches better. Great. If I am a gamer and do normal work with my chip, Ivy isn't going to be noticeable for the differences it provides around Sandy. When Haswell comes out, I am expecting it to be better than both by a worth while margin to rave about it.
It astounds me how anyone takes your advice since your reasoning is horrible and your spelling and grammar are even worse. He wants to OC high but has no money. I'd much rather have a Sandy chip OCed to 4.8 or so than try to delid and ruin (I've seen you've delidded yours, great job, we are all so proud, but not everyone can do this and is comfortable doing it) his current chip and be without. For the record, my opinion is to keep his current chip, not delid it, enjoy it for the speed it is at (since its more than most will need), and be done. I only bring this up since you are going at it again with another member about how Ivy cures cancer, can produce free oil and can end world hunger. Lets promote it for what it is, a small step above Sandy, and not the "Slayer" you claim it to be.

what do you guys think about this. is that a plastic credit card thingy he used for the almost whole process? he did use the blade in the beginning but that looks a lot less scarier to me using a sharp razor blade from beginning to end

Plastic is much safer and less invasive, that being said, its probably going to be harder to remove the IHS lol

Plastic card will not Damage anything.. if you want to do it.. that is your best bet.

btw would it still be worth it if I use a regular Gelid GC extreme TIM? from where's im from it's impossible to get the Coolaboratory Liquid Ultra. I could If I really really wanted it but I'd spend wayyy too much. I'll be more than happy with 10 degrees+ improvement. is that a reasonable expectation?

dun care if it takes me hours to remove it. as long as I don't kill my cpu. there's absolutely no way for me to kill my cpu using that method right? I think I can manage using the razor blade only in the beginning of the process. i don't think im stupid enough to mess that up if it's just the beginning lol

That tim you should get between 10 - 15c drop.

Just remember your gonna be touching the cpu a WHOLE LOT.. Use latex gloves or make sure your grounded by touching psu every few mins..

And when you get tired take a break.. no need to rush it... Once you get started it is very easy.

i'm a nurse so i have a lot of those latex gloves lying around. what kind of precaution should I do to ground myself? should I wear like rubber slippers or something?

and also the black glue. how do I clean it off? I'm asumming it would be a challenge to remove them all. isopropyl alcohol is good right?

Just do not scoot around on the carpet while holding cpu.. if you get up and go somewhere.. touch Psu that is plugged in to ground yourself.. Before you touch the Cpu again... I bet half the dead Delidded Ivy chips are not from hitting with a Razor there from not grounding yourself.

Your Nails are your secret weapon with the glue.. the stuff on the IHS u can use sand paper / Razor to get off.. However on the PCB it needs to be all Nails.

When you get it off this is your chance to Lapp the IHS or not.. for your funding i would suggest not to as it voids the warranty.. If you do not and Cpu fails in the future u just get black rubber glue and glue IHS back on and wham you have a warranty.

If you like i can make a video of me trying to Damage the pcb with a credit card to see just how safe it is? let me know...

thanks. im gonna think about this again. maybe I can squeeze out my wallet a bit more for a replacement...the plastic card thingy method doesn't look so dangerous to me. I'm so close in doing this again. I might just surprise the thread with a "SUCESS! or an oh knoess post". thanks again OCN you guys really rock thumb.gif

I have actually owned both processors. I preferred my sandy bridge due to the fact it can clock higher on cooler temps. Without having to risk delidding. Ivy is a big fail in overclocking, intel was so cheap the had to use crap tim. I will be sticking with my amd rig until they bring back the overclocking glory that is sandy.
