I'm running 4.5 at 1.27-1.28v too, my temps top at 85 with low fan speed setting and 77 with max fan settings. I am still going to cut my cpu, seriously I bought the cpu in hope of 5ghz and at 4.5 i'm not even close lol

edit: although as someone said earlier in the thread, its actually relatively safe if you research enough and find the right tools to do it. As per someone suggested in the delid thread (thanks for that) use one of these

its practically impossible to fail, well I think anyway lol

and another thing, I've noticed temperatures aren't that great after delidding anyway if you don't use Liquid pro/ultra, well you'll get about -10 degrees normally but with liquid pro, most people are getting -20-25

If you use the guide on the delid thread and take your time, it is easy.

Just check the De lidded club for information.

Still Intel should be held accountable for their error. People should get free product replacements with the problem fixed.

That would be good but it won't happen. I guess someone could do the overclocker protection plan for another 20-30$ and run their chip with stock TIM at high temps til it fails.

It would throttle down, become unstable and crash more rather than failing. Sandy has better chances of failing rather than Ivy at the same temps.

First off, do it. If your unhappy with your rig, do it. I can't imagine sitting there and being pissed off at my hard ware when I knew how to fix it. Do it.

To all of you Holier Than Thou people out there telling him not to because its so hard, have you even looked at the threads around here? I've counted maybe five chips that were messed up after this. And for SB fan boys out there saying yours crush the IB. For real? Disco still cool too?

Honestly though, I did it. It was easy. Take your time, pay attention, and if you feel uneasy take a break. Make sure you remove all the black glue from both the IHS and PCB( i used 90% and fjnger nails). While your at it, lap the IHS and your heat sink( if its safe to do so). Make sure you get some CL Pro or Ultra on the die and clean your dang rig! Dust is not your friend!

How is it 60/30 for dellid but most the replys are people who haven't done it telling you how dangerous it is? Wowza. Do it!

I reserve the right to adjust this post in the future should anyone else say any silliness that I feel deserves comments. Do it.

I guess we have quite the bad ass here. Look out everyone!

Its very easy for you to tell him to do it when he has said he has no means to purchase a new chip if it breaks. Are you going to pony up the money to replace his chip if it breaks? Not everyone is you, so maybe they will not see it to be as easy as you did. A chip running a little hot is way more useful than a dead chip. Maybe you should reread your post before you start throwing people under the bus by calling them Holier than Thou for looking out for the OP. Do it. Do it. Do it.

You are the Holier than thou I was referring to. This proves my point. If he wants to do it. Do it. He asked our opinion. I say do it. He is unhappy with his system. DO IT. I re-read it. Still like it. And yes, I am a bad ass. Thank you.

P.S. Do it.

Its your chip and your money , you decide. I did mine and it was easy , very easy. The key is to take your time.
Im happy I did , got a 13 C temp drop using AS5 and MX-4 , will put on CLP when it arrives .

The main resaon I did it was my chip can do 5Ghz but ambiant temps here in SA are high , around 25- 30 C and a CPU at 95 C is not good... I could have run at 4,7 Mhz ( no real world diffrence and all that ) but this is OCN
