I don't argue with wanting to improve ones rig, but if he can't afford to replace it if it doesnt go well, whats the point? Sure, his temps go down and he can OC more, but its not necessary and wont bring him any real world advantages outside of saying his chip runs faster. Just because this site promotes performance and the pursuit of it, does not mean that everyone that joins should absolutely do anything that can do get the most out of their chip. Too many people have no issue throwing other peoples money around and being inconsiderate of others situations when giving advice. I suppose it's my fault for expecting more from someone whos educational barrier has been crossed when using reasoning deeper than "Do it".

I vote for delidding:.A utility knife blade is best..push it in gently..with a slight up-angle towards the IHS.

P.S. Do it.

What's with all these noobs that come on OCN acting all disrespectful?

There is a way to get your point across and share your opinion without calling people "holier than now" or any other name. You may need yanks help someday you never know. Point is everyone has an opinion and is free to do so.

My opinion is I was like him. no money to replace anything yet suck with outrageous temps. I chose to de-lid and have suffered since. I am sure its easier for some than it is others. Mine wouldent even fit a mach 1 razor through it at first, while others can get a box cutter in there. It all depends on the chip and how close that gap is.

I voted dont do it based on my own regret, again just my opinion. thumb.gif

So let me get this straight? Im disrespectful, but hes dead on? You have got to be kidding me. If you feel the need play the blame game, go ahead and call out Yank too. Again, I didnt mention his name, he came after me. Then I called him out.

I do not consider myself a newb, but I guess when ive been in Iraq and afghanistan for years on end, I havent been able to keep up with all the changes....or even known about this site till recently, but I do know respect. And you two are heavy for demanding it, but light on giving it. I still say if its buggin Jprivido so much, that he is constantly looking at the thing, taking it out, prepping it all...then he should do it. Might he make a wrong move? Maybe, but that goes for nearly all the Mods and OCing we do. Its the risk and reward that makes us want to OC.

Thanks for you time, and this will be my last post on this thread. Good Luck, Jprivido, on which ever you choose.

don't do it! dont kill your cpu!.................................................................... 34% (15)

i didnt have money to replace it, so was very risky for me to do,
if it went wrong, i prolly had to save money over 6 months to replace it,
but ..i had no doubt in my mind, knew from the first week i bought it,
i wanted to delid, couldnt even run prime or ibt at 4.5ghz without hitting 105C

if temps are really bugging you, and you want to get higher OC's, go for it..
if you can run 4.5ghz, and are happy with it,
and only hit high temps, around 90C, when running prime or ibt,
to look if your OC is stable or not, then dont delid..

and.. if youre a normal daily user, and dont do folding stuff etc,
youll be fine for a long time really, youre vcore looks good, and you never hit those temps
with normal daily use right smile.gif

o, i voted "GO FOR IT MAN!!!" btw ..lol
most peeps say go for it wink.gif

First of all, I would prefer that you do not leave, and apologize if you feel I have been out of line. With that being said, your first post was rather disrespectful to anyone who did not share your opinion. I am not asking you to go out of your way to respect me and treat me differently, but instead to not be disrespectful in general. I can be guilty of the same, so I need to look into that time to time myself, so don't feel that I am not admitting faults also. One of my pet peeves on this site is when members dont pay particular attention to another members situation when they ask questions to give the best advice on how to help them personally. Is getting better temps great? Yes. Is having a higher OC better? Yes. I am in 100% agreement with you, and if you are in the situation that you can afford failure, I am all for it. I think it is completely ignorant to come in and say that this is a fool proof method, and the way that you stated it made it sound like he would be stupid not to do it and everyone else who said that he shouldn't are "holier than thou". This happens all the time when new users come in and have no idea what they need to accomplish a task, have been saving money to build a PC, toss out an enormous budget, and members here think its their goal to spend every dollar of the budget when they could accomplish exactly what the member wants for 1/2 the price.

I try to give advice by suggesting the pros and cons of both and let the user decide. If he decides delidding his chip is best, and it breaks, then he made that decision. If you tell him its awesome and that no one ever has problems and hed be dumb not to and it breaks, thats our problem as a community, not his.

To all of you Holier Than Thou people out there telling him not to because its so hard, have you even looked at the threads around here? I've counted maybe five chips that were messed up after this. And for SB fan boys out there saying yours crush the IB. For real? Disco still cool too?
Honestly though, I did it. It was easy. Take your time, pay attention, and if you feel uneasy take a break. Make sure you remove all the black glue from both the IHS and PCB( i used 90% and fjnger nails). While your at it, lap the IHS and your heat sink( if its safe to do so). Make sure you get some CL Pro or Ultra on the die and clean your dang rig! Dust is not your friend!
How is it 60/30 for dellid but most the replys are people who haven't done it telling you how dangerous it is? Wowza. Do it!
I reserve the right to adjust this post in the future should anyone else say any silliness that I feel deserves comments. Do it.
